What does a sales engineering manager do?

They bridge the gap between a company's sales and engineering departments, ensuring that customer needs are accurately understood and addressed. Their responsibilities include managing the sales engineering team, collaborating with sales representatives, providing technical expertise during sales processes, and assisting with product demonstrations or solution design. Additionally, they often play a key role in training staff and developing strategies to improve customer satisfaction and sales effectiveness.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sales engineering manager?

To thrive as a Sales Engineering Manager, you need a solid background in engineering or technical sales, leadership experience, and a relevant degree in engineering or business. Familiarity with CRM platforms, technical sales tools, and industry certifications such as Certified Sales Professional (CSP) or technical certifications are highly valued. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and team leadership skills are essential for building strong client relationships and managing cross-functional teams. These competencies are crucial for driving sales growth, delivering technical value to clients, and effectively leading high-performing sales engineering teams.

Description

Help Shape the Next Generation of Fitness Products:

At Johnson Health Tech North America, we're not just building treadmills, bikes, ellipticals, strength equipment, and connected fitness experiences - we're helping people move better, feel stronger, and live healthier lives. Our products show up in homes, health clubs, retail showrooms, and commercial spaces around the world, and every great product starts with someone who can spot what customers need before they even say it.

We're looking for an Assistant Product Manager who is curious, organized, collaborative, and ready to jump into the exciting world where fitness, product development, marketing, sales, engineering, manufacturing, and customer experience all meet.

Where You'll Make an Impact:

This role is part product detective, part project coordinator, part storyteller, and part fitness industry trend watcher. You'll support the Senior Product Manager in bringing new product ideas to life, from early research and competitive reviews to product briefs, launch support, and sales training.

  • Research fitness industry trends, customer needs, and competitor products to help identify what's next.
  • Collaborate with design, engineering, manufacturing, sales, marketing, and global teams to support product development.
  • Help create product briefs, new product proposals, competitive reviews, owner's manuals, and assembly guides.
  • Support projects across treadmills, bikes, ellipticals, strength equipment, and console technology.
  • Assist with product improvements, launch planning, showroom preparation, dealer support, and sales training.
  • Bring a thoughtful, customer-first mindset to every product conversation.

You'll Love This Role If You..

  • Get excited about products and the "why" behind what makes people choose one over another.
  • Enjoy digging into research, comparing details, and turning information into clear recommendations.
  • Can juggle multiple projects without losing sight of the details.
  • Like working with cross-functional teams and building relationships with people in different areas of the business.
  • Are comfortable asking good questions, sharing ideas, and helping move projects forward.
  • Have an interest in fitness, wellness, retail, product management, or consumer products.

Requirements

Skills That Set You Up for Success:

  • A 4-year degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, business administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience or education in product, sales, service, project management, or the fitness industry is helpful.
  • Experience with specialty retail, health clubs, mass retail, product management, or consumer products is a plus.
  • Strong communication, organization, and follow-through skills.
  • Comfort using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Interest in global collaboration, product development, and bringing ideas from concept to launch.
  • Up to 25% global travel
