Description:

ATP Adhesive Systems, a wholly owned Henkel company, is seeking a commercially driven and technically skilled Sales Engineer - Construction to accelerate growth within the building and construction market. This role focuses on tape applications for roofing, windows, doors, façade systems, and other building product applications.


As the technical and commercial lead for ATP-Henkel initiatives, you will work closely with Henkel sales teams, customers, engineers, and decision-makers to identify opportunities, solve application challenges, and drive business growth. The ideal candidate is comfortable engaging with engineers, procurement professionals, operations teams, and executive stakeholders throughout complex sales cycles involving specification wins, technical validation, and commercial conversion.


Location

This is a remote, field-based position. Candidates should reside near a major airport on the U.S. East Coast to support customer visits, business development activities, and travel requirements. Preferred locations include states along the Eastern Seaboard, such as Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, or other nearby East Coast markets.


Business Development
  • Identify and develop tape opportunities across the building and construction value chain, including construction OEM applications for roofing, windows, doors, façade systems, building materials manufacturers, and distribution channels.
  • Manage a disciplined sales pipeline from early concept and specification through validation, commercial award, and product launch.
  • Support product development initiatives where tape solutions are engineered into a customer's finished building product.
  • Represent ATP at industry trade shows, conferences, and association events to increase market presence and generate new business opportunities.
Solution Engineering
  • Translate customer application, process, and performance requirements into effective technical solutions across ATP's tape portfolio.
  • Guide customers through adhesion testing, surface compatibility assessments, environmental durability evaluations, application methods, and cost-performance tradeoff decisions.
  • Partner with Research & Development and Applications Engineering teams on customer-specific projects, particularly within OEM manufacturing environments and product integration applications.
  • Stay current on construction industry trends, building code developments, material science innovations, and competitive market activity.
  • Support the conversion of incumbent tape products and traditional fastening methods by demonstrating application advantages, performance benefits, and conversion economics.
Account Management
  • Serve as the primary tape specialist supporting Henkel's construction sales team across key customer accounts.
  • Assist in developing account growth plans by identifying tape opportunities within existing customer relationships.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to engineering, product development, operations, purchasing, category management, and other customer stakeholders when deeper application expertise is needed.
Joint Go-to-Market Coordination
  • Serve as the primary liaison for ATP's joint initiatives with Henkel's Construction Division.
  • Identify opportunities where existing liquid adhesive relationships can be expanded into tape specifications, system conversions, or integrated bonding solutions.
  • Support partner sales representatives with technical expertise, application guidance, product positioning, and customer-facing support.
  • Coordinate cross-functional activities related to joint opportunities, including sample requests, testing plans, production trials, packaging requirements, labeling needs, and commercial milestones.
  • Travel domestically as required, with occasional international travel possible.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical sales within specialty adhesives, tapes, building products, or engineered materials.
  • Construction industry experience required; experience supporting OEM applications in roofing, windows, doors, façades, building envelope systems, or related markets strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with building materials distribution channels is a plus.
  • Experience supporting or managing product development, validation testing, and production line trials with OEM or engineered product manufacturers preferred.
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand and communicate adhesive performance characteristics, application engineering considerations, and customer testing requirements.
  • Proven success managing complex sales opportunities, influencing multiple stakeholders, and converting technical opportunities into business growth.
  • Experience working effectively in collaborative and matrixed organizations, including joint selling with external partner teams.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce or a similar customer relationship management (CRM) platform.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Exceptional communication, organization, project management, and time management skills.
  • Ability to travel 25%-50% domestically as required, with occasional international travel.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
