Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Sustaining Engineering)
Location: Flexan – Salt Lake City, Utah
Compensation: $110K–$120K base salary (depending on experience)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Overview
Seeking a hands-on Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join its Sustaining Engineering team supporting medical device manufacturing operations. This is not a traditional process engineering role focused on molding or large-scale equipment development. Instead, the team is looking for a strong mid-career engineer who can support sustaining engineering activities, continuous improvement initiatives, tooling and fixture design, and cross-functional manufacturing support within a regulated medical device environment.
The ideal candidate will have 5–7+ years of experience in medical device manufacturing engineering and bring a strong balance of technical capability, collaboration, mentorship, and hands-on problem solving. This individual will partner closely with senior engineering leadership while helping guide and mentor junior engineers on the team.
This role is highly visible and business-critical as the team continues to ramp up production and engineering support activities.
Key Responsibilities
Support sustaining engineering activities across existing medical device manufacturing operations
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, manufacturability, and production support
Create and maintain engineering change requests/orders (ECRs/ECOs), quality documentation, work instructions, and manufacturing support documentation
Collaborate closely with Design Engineering teams to improve Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and production readiness
Design manufacturing tooling, fixtures, jigs, and support equipment using SolidWorks
Provide day-to-day hands-on engineering support to manufacturing operations and troubleshoot production-related issues
Support root cause investigations, corrective actions, and nonconformance resolution activities
Assist with validation and implementation of manufacturing improvements and process updates
Partner with Quality and Operations teams to ensure compliance within a regulated medical device environment
Mentor and help develop early-career engineers by providing technical guidance and support
Contribute to a collaborative, fast-paced engineering environment with strong team interaction
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field
5–7+ years of manufacturing or sustaining engineering experience within medical device manufacturing
Strong experience supporting engineering changes, quality documentation, and sustaining manufacturing operations
Experience working directly with Design Engineering teams on manufacturability improvements
Proficiency with SolidWorks for tooling, fixture, and manufacturing support design
Hands-on troubleshooting and continuous improvement experience in a production environment
Strong understanding of FDA-regulated or ISO-controlled manufacturing environments
Ability to balance technical execution with mentorship and team collaboration
Excellent communication and organizational skills
