Job Description SummaryThe Product Safety & Compliance Engineer works directly within the engineering development team to ensure our products meet all global safety standards, regulatory requirements, and quality certifications throughout the entire product lifecycle. You will integrate safety-by-design principles from the conceptual phase through prototyping, testing, and final market release, ensuring our products are safe, reliable, and compliant with all relevant market directives. Key Responsibilities

  • Safety-by-Design Integration: Collaborate with R&D and design teams to identify safety risks during the early stages of product development and advocate for engineering controls that mitigate those risks.
  • Compliance Strategy: Maintain and update a roadmap of applicable global safety standards (e.g., IEC, UL, CE, ANSI, CSA) relevant to the product line.
  • Certification Management: Lead the coordination of third-party product testing, certification filings, and audits (e.g., UL listings, CE marking).
  • Risk & Hazard Analysis: Conduct formal Product Safety Risk Assessments, including FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and Fault Tree Analysis, to validate design robustness.
  • Technical Documentation: Author and maintain technical files, Declarations of Conformity, and safety documentation required for market access and regulatory submission.
  • Post-Market Surveillance: Assist in the analysis of field data, customer feedback, and product returns to identify potential safety trends or necessary design improvements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in product development, quality engineering, or regulatory compliance.

  • The work location for this role is in Rochester, NY (Relocation assistance provided if not already local).

  • In-depth familiarity with global safety and compliance standards relevant to our product sector.
  • Strong background in product testing methodologies, hardware/software validation, and engineering design documentation.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $89,300.00 and $148,700.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
