The team you will be a part of
The EH&S team designs, develops, implements and oversees the organization's environmental health and safety programs and procedures to safeguard employees and surrounding communities and to ensure that all facilities are in compliance with regulations.
This role in summary
Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) are core to Whirlpool's Mission and foundational values. This position within the Global EHS function is primarily responsible for leading the company's risk management efforts related to legacy remediation liabilities. The role also incorporates risk management related to company mergers and acquisitions activities and due diligence.
Your responsibilities will include
  • Lead the development and execution of environmental remediation strategies for the global portfolio of remediation sites in accordance with sound risk management approach
  • Lead and manage the development of financial estimates for environmental liabilities in accordance with appropriate Whirlpool procedures
  • Accountable for identifying areas of environmental risk and uncertainty and appropriate communication to Whirlpool leadership
  • Liaise with Corporate and Regional Finance to effectively track and forecast environmental remediation spend and associated impacts to profit plans
  • Lead environmental due diligence efforts in support of Global Real Estate and M&A work as requested
  • Liaise with Corporate and Regional Legal to manage potential and active claims with legacy environmental issues
  • Serve as Corporate Witness as requested on active legal matters with environmental aspects
  • Serve as the public face of Whirlpool Corporation to external stakeholders as required for outward facing communications and negotiations as appropriate
  • Assess manufacturing sites' compliance with legal requirements and Whirlpool environmental, health and safety standards
  • Serve as technical resource to the business for environmental matters as needed
  • This position requires up to 20% domestic and international travel

Minimum requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in Geology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in related field
  • Experience developing and leading remediation strategies at multiple sites of varying size and complexity
  • Proven knowledge of CERCLA, RCRA, OSHA 40 CFR 1910 and 1926, and various State Environmental Remediation Programs
  • Experience with conducting environmental remediation outside the US
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required, with the ability to manage privileged and confidential information

Preferred skills and experiences
  • Post-graduate Degree in related field
  • Formal media training or demonstrated experience dealing with various media outlets
