Job description

Position Location: Chula Vista, CA

Summary: Sheet metal mechanics are responsible for the layout, fabrication and installation of sheet metal parts made from sheet thicknesses up to 1/8 inch such as bulkheads, lockers, outfitting and furnishings and miscellaneous brackets. Sheet metal mechanics prefabricate, fit, install sheet metal structures in position for welding or riveting or other methods of mechanical fastening. Sheet metal mechanics prepare templates for fabrication of nonstandard parts.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Helps fabricate templated for bending / shaping ship shipboard structures, frames, bulkheads and brackets.
  • Assists with measurements, layout and cutting of templates.
  • Perform grinding and cleaning of surfaces to be welded or riveted using power and hand tools.
  • Proficient in riveting and fastening panels and sheet metal structures.
  • Perform housekeeping efforts to maintain cleanliness of the worksite.
  • Deliver materials as required.
  • Performs duties as Fire Watch.
  • Participates in special projects as required.
  • Employees may be required to travel for work to other locations

Computer Skills: Must possess basic computer skills to enter data into different data basis.

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED, plus technical/vocational training or the equivalent combination.
  • Typically requires 1+ years related experience.
  • Read and understand blueprints and specifications.

Certificates and Licenses: Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain a security badge for all military installations and civilian shipyards as needed.
