Familiarity with safety management systems like ISO 45001 and certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or OSHA credentials are often expected. What does a safety consultant do?

A safety consultant visits and inspects a variety of workplaces to ensure compliance with safety codes on the local, state, and federal levels. As a safety consultant, the frequency of these visits depends on your contract, and your duties mainly involve checking personal protective equipment (PPE), looking for warning signs, and inspecting a variety of mechanical equipment. You make a list of any issues for a business to clear up and then follow up with them on your next visit. Designing safety programs as needed is required while keeping environmental laws in mind. You also train employees on safety procedures, such as the use of fire extinguishers and forklifts, and create a safety manual if needed.
