What is a rural remote?

A Rural Remote job is a position that allows employees to work from a remote location in a rural area, rather than commuting to a traditional office. These jobs often rely on internet connectivity and digital tools to complete tasks and communicate with teams. They can include roles in customer service, IT, healthcare, education, and other industries. Rural Remote jobs provide opportunities for individuals to work from less populated areas while staying connected to a broader workforce.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a rural remote position?

To excel in a rural remote role, candidates typically need strong self-management abilities, proficiency with digital communication tools, and expertise relevant to their specific job function (such as teaching, healthcare, or IT). Competence with remote collaboration platforms, reliable internet access, and possibly industry-specific certifications are often required. Excellent problem-solving, adaptability, and independent decision-making are key soft skills that help professionals thrive in isolated or low-resource settings. These capabilities are critical because rural remote positions often lack immediate in-person support and require individuals to independently handle challenges and maintain productivity.

What unique challenges can I expect while working in a rural remote position?

Working in a rural remote role often involves balancing limited access to on-site resources with maintaining effective communication and productivity. You may encounter unreliable internet connectivity, fewer immediate colleagues, and the need to be highly self-directed in your daily work. However, these roles can also offer greater autonomy, flexibility, and the chance to make a meaningful impact in underserved communities. Many employers provide robust virtual support systems, but it's important to be proactive in reaching out and collaborating with remote team members. Adaptability and strong organization skills are key to succeeding in this dynamic environment.

This role is designed for a qualified professional who is passionate about supporting individuals in achieving their mental health goals through remote counseling services. The ideal candidate will contribute to enhancing the well-being of our program participants while promoting community stabilization and respecting individual rights.

About the Organization

Mind Discovery Mental Health Services is committed to providing accessible mental health support to individuals across Oregon. Our organization specializes in telehealth services, allowing us to reach clients in both urban and rural areas. We pride ourselves on maintaining a supportive and collaborative environment that encourages the professional development of our staff while fostering meaningful relationships with our clients.

Work Environment

This is a full-time remote position, allowing you to work from the comfort of your home while accessing a variety of telehealth resources. Our team works closely together, utilizing advanced telecommunication technologies to maintain an engaging and effective work environment. As part of a modern telehealth facility, you will have the tools necessary to ensure high-quality care delivery while managing a flexible schedule.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct virtual counseling sessions with clients, focusing on their mental well-being and personal development.
  • Complete critical incident reporting forms within 24 hours of incidents as required, ensuring prompt and effective communication.
  • Act as a secondary support for after-hours phone care coordination on an alternating basis to assist clients in crisis situations.
  • Collaborate proactively with participants to prevent the need for crisis services, employing strategies such as early intervention and resource linkage.
  • Complete and maintain crisis alerts in coordination with county crisis services to ensure comprehensive support for participants experiencing acute distress.
  • Document all interactions and therapy progress to maintain accurate client files and facilitate smooth communication with team members.
  • Engage in ongoing case reviews and consult with peers to ensure optimal service delivery and clinical effectiveness.
Patient Population / Client Focus

In this role, you will primarily work with adults experiencing a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. Your expertise will empower clients to explore their challenges and develop coping strategies, fostering resilience and personal growth.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Mental Health Counseling.
  • Active and unrestricted licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
  • Proven ability to manage high caseload volumes while maintaining quality in service delivery and client interactions.
  • Strong clinical skills with a focus on building rapport and trust with clients to facilitate open dialogue and effective interventions.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, ensuring clarity and empathy in all client interactions.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in a telehealth setting or familiarity with telecommunication platforms used for virtual counseling.
  • Knowledge in crisis intervention techniques and experience working with emergency service protocols.
  • Previous involvement in community mental health initiatives and programs.
Compensation and Benefits

This position offers a competitive salary range of USD 100,000 to 105,000 per year, commensurate with experience and caseload management. Our comprehensive benefits package includes health insurance, retirement plans, and professional liability coverage. Additionally, we prioritize the growth and development of our staff, providing opportunities for continuing education and professional advancement.

Career Growth Opportunities

At Mind Discovery Mental Health Services, we believe in investing in our employees' professional futures. You will have access to mentorship programs, workshops, and continuing education courses, encouraging you to expand your skill set and advance within the organization. We also support your journey to take on leadership roles and specialize in areas that align with your interests.
