Job description

Who we are:
RSH Legal is the largest injury firm headquartered in Iowa. We dedicate ourselves to getting justice and fairness for Iowans who have injury, disability, or employment claims. Our firm represents individuals, not companies. We pride ourselves on offering experienced representation with integrity and compassion. We provide our clients with highly personalized legal service. Anyone who works for us must support our mission. We are expanding our services across all
of Iowa.

We want to hire someone who will be a superstar on a team devoted to providing the best legal service possible to our clients.

What we need:
Position (Part-time or Full-time, in-person): Legal Secretary/Paralegal Assistant for our Cedar Rapids branch office.

The Legal Secretary/Paralegal Assistant will work primarily with a team that manages work injury, car accident, medical malpractice, and wrongful death cases. We encourage interested candidates to read about our workers’ compensation, car accident, medical malpractice, and wrongful death practices on our website: https://www.fightingforfairness.com/cases-we-handle/

We are a highly collaborative office, and, like most of our positions, this is an in-person position.

What will you be doing?

  • Sending initial documentation to prospective clients;
  • Scheduling appointments for attorneys;
  • Communicating with clients regarding appointments and working with them to obtain necessary documentation for the claim;
  • Assisting paralegals in communicating with clients, obtaining relevant documents, and various scheduling tasks, including depositions, mediations, consultations with medical providers, expert evaluations of our clients, hearings, and trials;
  • Organizing files and documents;
  • Drafting correspondence; and
  • Filing documents with courts and state agencies through their online filing systems.

Qualifications:
We do not require prior legal experience, but it will be strongly considered. We would
appreciate finding someone who enjoys organizing and prioritizing. We also do not require any
specific degree or certificate. Instead, we believe that employees who succeed at our firm
demonstrate the following:

  • A desire to work as part of a collaborative team and assist a paralegal with various tasks;
  • Ability to follow directions and adhere to policies regarding how we perform our work and serve our clients;
  • Discretion, adherence to confidentiality, and maturity to work with clients who are suffering from great loss;
  • A desire to provide compassionate support and guidance to clients engaging with the legal system in response to life-changing events;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to assist with a high volume of cases and clients over multiple years;
  • A proactive and thoughtful approach to problem-solving and a commitment to continuously learn, adapt, and embrace new challenges;
  • Excellent technological skills. Our firm uses a cloud-based case management system and our personal injury practice group maintains both digital and paper files. We seek candidates who are or can become proficient in:
    • Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook (calendar and email)
    • Adobe Acrobat Professional
    • Cloud-based file management and data entry
    • Electronic court filing systems
    • Zoom and other videoconference platforms

What we offer:

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience;
  • Employer-paid health, dental, and vision (full-time employees only);

  • Paid parking as needed;
  • Gym membership;
  • A career where you are truly making a difference in the lives of people who need help;
  • The opportunity to work with skilled and supportive colleagues;
  • A first-class office environment committed to providing quality technology and resources;
  • Practice management resources and training; and
  • Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch, but we also require some additional time, particularly when preparing for significant events in a case, such as trial, mediation, or deposition.
