Job Summary

The Software Engineer II designs, develops, tests, implements, and supports enterprise healthcare applications running on the IBM i platform. This position works with RPG, CL, Db2 for i, SQL, stored procedures, and related technologies to deliver reliable, maintainable solutions that comply with established architecture, quality, security, and engineering standards.

The engineer participates throughout the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, technical design, estimation, coding, testing, implementation, documentation, and production support. This role also identifies opportunities to improve application architecture and engineering processes, collaborates with cross-functional teams, and provides technical guidance to less-experienced developers. The existing position requires experience developing complex applications, knowledge of SDLC practices, relational database concepts, design patterns, testing, and configuration management.

Salary: 90K - 120K

  • Develop and maintain programs using RPG, ILE RPG, free-form RPG, CL, Db2 for i, embedded SQL, SQL procedures, and user-defined functions.

  • Produce technical designs that follow established architecture, database, security, and coding standards.
  • Analyze business and technical requirements; translate them into effective software solutions.
  • Design, develop, test, debug, implement, and maintain applications on the IBM i platform.
  • Provide accurate estimates for assigned work and communicate risks, dependencies, and changes that may affect delivery commitments.
  • Create and execute unit, integration, system, regression, and performance testing as appropriate.
  • Diagnose and resolve application defects, data issues, production incidents, and performance problems.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical design reviews, and architecture discussions.
  • Maintain technical documentation, implementation instructions, and operational support materials.
  • Collaborate with product management, quality assurance, operations, database administration, architecture, and other engineering teams.
  • Participate in Agile planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, demonstrations, and retrospectives.
  • Use approved source-control, change-management, build, deployment, and AI-assisted development tools in accordance with company policies.
  • Identify deficiencies in applications, technical designs, and engineering processes and recommend practical improvements.
  • Support application modernization efforts, including the replacement or refactoring of legacy components.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers when needed.
  • Assist with production support, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
  • Complete assigned work in accordance with established schedules, regulatory requirements, and organizational priorities.
  • Maintain compliance with the MEDHOST Quality Management System and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the needs of the organization.
