What is a route sales job?

Route sales jobs focus on the sale and delivery of products to customers in a particular territory. In this role, you may drive between a variety of stores, search for leads, display and demonstrate products, quote prices, and prepare reports on business transactions. Route sales positions also make cash deposits, settle inventory, help collect past-due payments, and travel overnight as needed. Some aspects of this job vary by the items you are selling, but your duties usually include loading and unloading trucks on a regular basis, so stamina and physical fitness are crucial.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a route sales representative, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Route Sales Representative, you need strong sales acumen, a valid driver's license, and basic math skills, often combined with a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with handheld sales devices, inventory management systems, and route-planning software is typically required.
