Our EMI team at SGH is always looking for great talent, and especially people who enjoy solving difficult problems creatively. Engineering Mechanics and Infrastructure (EMI) applies engineering mechanics, materials science, numerical simulation, innovative technologies, and collective expertise to solve our clients' toughest problems in an inspiring work environment that nurtures life-long learning and growth. A successful candidate for EMI may work on projects related to buildings, bridges, pipelines, nuclear facilities, tanks, rail vehicles, rotating equipment, precision observatory structures, and other non-building structures and systems.ย 

SGH works on challenging projects for owners, contractors, and other engineering firms on a wide spectrum of projects that include nuclear and defense.ย 

What You'll Be Doing:ย 

  • Perform structural analyses under supervision.ย 
  • Design new structures and repair existing structures.ย 
  • Perform linear and nonlinear finite element analyses, with supervision, using programs such as Abaqus and ANSYS.ย 
  • Work on routine problems independently and on project teams.ย 
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals, letters, reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, budgeting, scheduling, and client communication.ย 
  • Review work by technicians, draftsmen, and others assisting the project team.ย 
  • Conduct field inspections and support in-house lab work.ย 
  • Conduct engineering calculations using software such as MATLAB and Mathcad.ย 

What You'll Need:ย 

  • 0 - 2 years of professional experience in structural engineering or engineering mechanicsย 
  • Bachelor's or Master's of Science or Engineering in Engineering Mechanics or Structural Engineering
  • Education must have an emphasis on structural analysis, structural dynamics, and/or engineering mechanics (e.g., civil, structural, mechanical, or similar engineering discipline)
  • Education/experience in finite element analysis (FEA), preferred
  • Ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) registration within five years.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with technical staff and clients
  • Have proficient computer programming skills, in programming languages such as Python and VBA
  • Ability to travel and perform field inspections of structures under supervision
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report, if applicableย
