Job Description:

Duties:
  • The Senior Chemical Engineer functions primarily as the owner of air quality control systems (AQCS) at a power generating facility, ensuring the equipment is optimized to operate in a safe and reliable manner. Fuel is primarily coal with some supplemental oil.
  • Primary equipment systems include Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) units, Pulse-Jet Fabric Filters (PJFF's), Spray-Dry Absorbers (SDA's), Dry Sorbent Injection (DSI), Activated Carbon Injection (ACI), Urea Based Ammonia System (UBAS), as well as ash and waste handling equipment.
  • The Senior Chemical Engineer works with plant staff to provide emissions control process optimization, technical direction to Operations and Maintenance crews, equipment inspection and condition assessment, reliability improvement, run/repair/replace decisions, and economic evaluations.
  • Due to the nature of the assignment, this is an on-site work assignment (no remote work).

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
  • Preparing specifications for purchases of chemical equipment and materials and estimating material, labor, or construction costs for budget preparation
  • Prepare consumables forecast (urea, carbon, lime) and update consumables budgets.
  • Monitoring and optimizing of online equipment as well as inspections during scheduled or forced equipment outages.
  • Monitoring and optimizing waste product stream (ash and water effluent) equipment
  • Writing reports and compiling data regarding existing and potential chemical engineering projects and studies and provide technical support to other departments and personnel as needed
  • Ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements by directing or coordinating installation, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, documentation, support, or testing activities
  • Establishing construction, manufacturing, or installation standards or specifications by performing a wide range of detailed calculations
  • Ensuring that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements by preparing chemical systems specifications and technical drawings and investigate and resolve project issues in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with customers, coworkers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering products or projects and monitor project progress and budget, and prepare reports for upper management
  • Designing, maintaining, implementing, or improving chemical instruments, facilities, components, equipment products, or systems for industrial, commercial, or domestic purposes
  • Design, control, and implement chemical systems and products and serve as the primary point of contact with clients for all chemical engineering project matters.
  • Manage the development and implementation of chemical systems

Skills:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Thorough understanding of engineering principles, practices, and tools.
  • Understanding of PLC/DCS logic
  • Proficient in computer-assisted design (CAD) and other design, data recording, and analyzation software
  • Strong understanding of chemistry, mathematics, biology, and engineering principles
  • Thorough understanding of safety regulations related to assigned projects
  • Exceptional problem solving, verbal and written communication, presentation, and project management skills
  • Ability to cooperate and communicate with others, especially those without a technical background.

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering degree from an ABET accredited program OR Engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license

Experience:
  • 4 - 7 years Relevant experience (Required)
