What is a rotational nanny?

A Rotational Nanny is a childcare professional who works in a scheduled shift system, typically alternating with another nanny to provide 24/7 care. This setup allows for continuous support while ensuring each nanny has extended time off. Rotational nannies often work in high-profile or busy households, traveling with the family as needed. Shifts can range from one to two weeks on/off or other variations depending on the family's needs. This role requires flexibility, adaptability, and experience in childcare.

What does a typical work schedule look like for a rotational nanny?

A Rotational Nanny typically works in shifts—such as one or two weeks on, followed by one or two weeks off—providing consistent childcare for families who require extended periods of coverage. During their active weeks, nannies may live-in with the family and be on call for most hours, including some nights and weekends, depending on the arrangement. This schedule often enables nannies to have predictable time off between rotations, which can be ideal for work-life balance and personal travel. Applicants should be comfortable with extended stays away from home and be adaptable to different household routines, as rotation schedules and family expectations can vary.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the rotational nanny position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Rotational Nanny, you need extensive childcare experience, a deep understanding of child development, and relevant certifications such as CPR/First Aid. Familiarity with household management tools, digital scheduling systems, and sometimes specialized education or driving licenses may be required. Resourcefulness, flexibility, strong communication, and the ability to quickly adapt to new environments are essential soft skills for this role. These skills are vital because Rotational Nannies frequently transition between households, support varying family routines, and must ensure consistent, high-quality care across different settings.

Job description

Overview
THE WOODLANDS, TX (NATIONWIDE BILINGUAL SEARCH) - A prominent bilingual family relocating to the prestigious Carlton Woods community this December is seeking four exceptional professional career nannies to establish two dedicated ROTA teams-one team assigned to each child; and one team will be versed in Special Needs care. Each three-year-old twin boy will have his own consistent team of two rotating nannies, ensuring exceptional continuity of care and the opportunity to build deep, trusting relationships with the child in their care. This is one of the most coveted opportunities in the industry, designed for career nannies at the very top of their profession. Fluency in both Spanish and English is non-negotiable, with additional languages considered a significant asset.
Each nanny will work a 14 days on / 14 days off rotational schedule, providing full round-the-clock coverage while on duty, including travel. This is a true ROTA position requiring complete flexibility while on shift. The family travels frequently, both domestically and internationally, often aboard their private aircraft, and candidates should be comfortable traveling on short notice when needed. A valid passport is required, and finalists should be willing to travel internationally to the family's country of origin for the interview and trial process.
Although the children will each have their own dedicated nanny team, collaboration and communication between caregivers are essential. The family is seeking professionals who understand the importance of consistency, teamwork, and maintaining seamless routines across both households of care. Mom is exceptionally involved and has thoughtfully developed systems, routines, and expectations for the children's care. She is seeking nannies who can integrate seamlessly into her established structure, adapt fluidly to the family's dynamic lifestyle, and execute her vision with confidence and precision. This role is ideal for someone who thrives within clearly established expectations, anticipates needs before they arise, and brings a calm, composed presence to a fast-paced household.
Responsibilities include providing exceptional full-charge childcare, planning developmentally appropriate activities, accompanying the family on travel, driving as needed, and maintaining close attention to water safety, as the family spends considerable time around pools and swimming is essential. The household is fully staffed, and while household management support is already in place, the nannies may assist with organizing the children's belongings, routines, and spaces, particularly during the family's transition into their new home.
One of the twins was born prematurely and has low muscle tone (hypotonia), requiring ongoing physical therapy several times each week. Experience working with premature infants, children with hypotonia, or those receiving physical, occupational, or speech therapy is strongly preferred, particularly for the nanny team supporting his care. The ideal candidate will be comfortable implementing therapist-directed exercises exactly as instructed, encouraging independence through everyday movement and play, closely monitoring changes in strength, balance, coordination, or fatigue, and communicating regularly with both the parents and therapy team. Above all, the family is seeking caregivers who understand that meaningful developmental progress requires patience, consistency, encouragement, and careful observation. While one twin is adventurous, energetic, and fearless, his brother is more sensitive, cautious, and continues to benefit from additional physical support. The family places extraordinary importance on finding caregivers who appreciate each child's unique personality and developmental journey while creating a warm, nurturing, and confidence-building environment.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with ultra-high-net-worth or high-profile families and possess exceptional professionalism, discretion, emotional intelligence, and organizational skills. Candidates should be fully vaccinated, including COVID-19 and influenza, hold a valid passport, be strong swimmers, and genuinely enjoy international travel. The family is seeking individuals who remain calm under pressure, communicate exceptionally well, work collaboratively within a fully staffed household, and are passionate about fostering children's growth while respecting the family's parenting philosophy.
Compensation ranges from $120,000 to $200,000+ gross annually per nanny, depending on experience and qualifications. The family is open to a nationwide search and welcomes fly-in/fly-out candidates. They are eager to identify the right long-term team and intend to move quickly throughout the hiring process.
