What is a live in rotational nanny?

A Live In Rotational Nanny is a childcare professional who lives in the employer’s home for scheduled periods—often one or two weeks at a time—then rotates out with another nanny. This arrangement provides continuous care for children without requiring one nanny to be on duty all the time. Rotational nannies typically work long shifts during their rotation and then have extended time off. This setup is common for families who travel frequently or need 24/7 coverage. It ensures that children have consistent care while allowing nannies time to rest and recharge.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live in rotational nanny?

To thrive as a Live In Rotational Nanny, you need experience in childcare, knowledge of child development, and relevant certifications such as CPR and First Aid. Familiarity with household management tools, family scheduling apps, and communication platforms is often required. Exceptional interpersonal skills, patience, flexibility, and discretion are essential soft skills in this role. These abilities ensure the safety, wellbeing, and harmonious development of children while supporting the needs and routines of busy households.

How do live in rotational nannies typically coordinate schedules and handovers with other nannies or family members?

Live-in rotational nannies usually work in shifts, such as one or two weeks on followed by a week off, to provide continuous care for children. Coordination with other nannies or family members is essential, and detailed handover notes, daily logs, and regular meetings are common industry practices to ensure consistency in routines and expectations. Open communication helps maintain smooth transitions, minimize disruptions for the children, and foster a collaborative environment. Working closely with parents and other caregivers also allows nannies to address any concerns and adapt to evolving family needs.

Job description

Serious inquiries only about this position. We will share additional details, including the exact location of the position, only with those who qualify and whom we believe are a good fit. Please make sure that you're reading all of the details in the job post.

The Opportunity
We are thrilled to be partnering once again with one of our longtime Modern Minders' families as they expand their household team and search for a second professional rotational nanny.
This is a family we know well, trust deeply, and genuinely adore working with. They are now looking for another exceptional caregiver to join an established, high-functioning team.
The family is incredibly hands-on and deeply involved with their child, but their professional lives are fast-paced and can change quickly. Last-minute work commitments, travel, and schedule changes mean they need reliable, full coverage and someone who can seamlessly step in when needed—and just as easily step back when parents are available.
The right person will be grounded, flexible, polished, and genuinely easy to have around. This is not a role for someone who needs every day to look exactly the same. It is a wonderful opportunity for a seasoned rotational nanny who understands the rhythm of high-profile family life and enjoys being part of a collaborative team.
Position Details
  • Location: South Florida + Travel
  • South Florida Base: Preference for candidates who live in South Florida or within a reasonable commuting distance of the Palm Beach area. ** They are open to someone who isn't S.FL-based, but you will be responsible for your own travel for commuting purposes.
  • Schedule: 7 days on / 7 days off
  • Start Date: Open for the right person
  • Children: One toddler
  • Additional identifying information, including exact location and family details, will only be shared with qualified candidates who move forward in the process.

The Role
This position centers around providing exceptional, developmentally thoughtful care for one toddler while working alongside involved parents and an established household team.
Responsibilities may include:
  • Providing attentive, loving, and developmentally appropriate care
  • Supporting toddler milestones, routines, and independence
  • Potty training and developmental transitions
  • Planning enriching activities, outings, reading, play, and age-appropriate learning
  • Maintaining consistency between rotations
  • Preparing simple child-focused meals and snacks
  • Managing child-related laundry, packing, unpacking, and organization
  • Keeping play areas, bedrooms, and child-related spaces organized
  • Packing for domestic and international travel
  • Traveling confidently with the family
  • Collaborating closely with parents, co-nanny, and household staff
  • Providing seamless handoffs between rotations
  • Remaining flexible when schedules shift unexpectedly

The Ideal Candidate
The family is looking for someone who is:
  • Warm, grounded, and down-to-earth
  • Easygoing without being passive
  • Highly organized and naturally proactive
  • Comfortable in a fast-moving, high-profile environment
  • Emotionally mature and drama-free
  • Excellent at reading the room
  • Confident knowing when to step in and when to give the family space
  • Flexible with last-minute schedule adjustments
  • Passionate about child development
  • Comfortable traveling frequently
  • Looking for a true long-term partnership with a family
A background in child development, early childhood education, teaching, or a related field is strongly preferred.
And if potty training happens to be one of your superpowers, this family would love to meet you.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must:
  • Have rotational nanny experience clearly demonstrated on their resume
  • Have at least 5 years of professional childcare experience
  • Have strong recent experience with infants and toddlers
  • Be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Hold current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Be able to pass a comprehensive background check
  • Have strong, verifiable professional references
  • Provide letters of recommendation when available
  • Have a polished, current professional resume
  • Be willing to commit to the family for at least one year
  • Preference given to those who have worked in high-profile homes of professional athletes and on a team of household professionals.
  • Be passport-ready and able to travel domestically and internationally
Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate strong longevity in previous roles, ideally 2-3+ years with prior families.
Travel
This family has traveled regularly, both domestically and internationally, in the past and presently, so the ability to do so is a must for their nanny.
The right candidate should genuinely enjoy travel and understand that flexibility is part of the role. Travel days, changing itineraries, and last-minute professional commitments are all part of the family's lifestyle.
Candidates should be comfortable moving between private residences, hotels, and travel accommodations while maintaining consistency and professionalism for the child.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Starting base $120,000-$150,000 annually, DOE
  • Private accommodations while on duty
  • All work-related travel expenses covered
  • Benefits package open and negotiable for the right candidate
  • Long-term opportunity with a family who values and respects their household team
  • Travel: Significant domestic and international travel required

Why This Role Stands Out
We do not say this lightly: this is one of our favorite families to work with.
They value professionalism, loyalty, warmth, communication, and great people. They are not looking for someone simply to fill a schedule. They are looking for the right person to join an already strong household team and grow with their family.
If you are a seasoned rotational nanny who loves travel, understands high-profile family dynamics, thrives in a team environment, and knows how to balance professionalism with warmth, this is an incredible opportunity.

Serious inquiries only.
Please read the full job description carefully before applying.
Due to the confidential and high-profile nature of this search, Modern Minders will only share additional information—including exact location and identifying family details—with candidates whose background, experience, and overall profile align with the position.
