Job description

$25 - $28 an hour 

We’re looking for a passionate Recreation Program Specialist to help advance our mission at The Root Farm. In this role, you’ll design and lead inclusive recreational programs that inspire connection, growth, and community engagement. You’ll create experiences that integrate with our agricultural and animal-based initiatives, ensuring they reflect our values of accessibility and impact. A key part of your work will be building strong partnerships with local schools and community organizations to provide meaningful opportunities such as field trips, team-building activities, and outdoor education, that enrich lives and foster belonging.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain partnerships with schools and community organizations to grow recreation programs.
  • Coordinate staff and volunteers for program delivery.
  • Organize schedules for activities, staff, and volunteers.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Monitor program quality, assess outcomes, and implement improvements.
  • Oversee challenge course activities and outdoor education programs for all ages and abilities.
  • Integrate recreational programming with agricultural and animal-based programs.
  • Lead outdoor activities safely and effectively, including ropes/challenge course facilitation.
  • Maintain equipment and assist with farm-related projects as needed.

Qualifications 

  • High School Diploma required.
  • At least 12 months working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Experience in outdoor education and challenge course facilitation.
  • Ropes/Challenge course certification preferred.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities.
  • Knowledge of Therapeutic Recreation and Positive Behavior Supports.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and ensure safety.
  • Valid NY State Driver’s License (travel required).
