As our Boating & Sailing Program Specialist at Lake Clear Summer Camp, you'll run fun, structured waterfront experiences that help campers grow brave, capable, and curious-while keeping safety at the core.
This is a seasonal, on-site position at Lake Clear Camp. Staff live at camp and receive room and board. Camp Dates at Lake Clear Camp are July 27 - August 21, 2026 (includes training and post-camp clean-up). Camp staff are generally off from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon each week.
Why You'll Love This Job
  • Get paid to spend your summer outdoors in a stunning Adirondack setting on Lake Clear
  • Build leadership experience while mentoring campers and running waterfront programs
  • Strengthen resume-ready skills: communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and safety management
  • Forge lasting friendships with a fun, mission-driven staff community
  • Create meaningful memories with campers-and take home stories you'll tell for years

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and facilitate daily boating and sailing activities based on campers' ages, abilities, and interests, aligned with weekly themes and program needs
  • Teach and supervise small craft activities, including canoes, kayaks, and sailboats
  • Evaluate the boating abilities of campers and staff and provide appropriate instruction and support
  • Assist waterfront staff in additional program areas, such as swimming and boating, as needed
  • Follow all policies and procedures set by Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York and applicable standards (ACA, DOH, etc.)
  • Utilize First Aid/CPR and emergency management procedures as needed to maintain a safe environment

About You:
  • Per regulations, this role must be 18 years or older by July 27, 2026.
  • Must have current certification or documented experience teaching and facilitating small craft boating activities for canoes, kayaks, and sailboats;
  • Ability to interact positively with youth ages 7 to 17; prior youth-focused work or volunteer experience preferred.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive professional work relationships
  • A safety-first mindset, strong judgment, and the ability to stay calm and supportive in fast-moving situations

Compensation & Perks
  • Earn $70-$80 per day (depending on experience)
  • Room and board included
  • Work in the beautiful park-like setting of Lake Clear Camp
  • Grow your mentoring, collaboration, and leadership skills
  • Spend summer helping campers build courage, confidence, and character!
