Job Summary:

The Health Information Management (HIM) Release of Information (ROI) Analyst manages incoming release of information requests within Geisinger System, ensuring accuracy, organization, and confidentiality of request for records. Additionally, this position provides reasonable assurance to the organization that patient care and satisfaction remain a priority within the day-to-day operations. This is achieved by collecting, entering, and processing requests for patient records from the hospital, physician offices, and clinics in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements of the healthcare system.

Job Duties:

  • Gain fundamental understanding of day-to-day operations and how it impacts the functions within ROI
  • Knowledge of medical records and affiliated components
  • Able to access, move, forward, and enter requests from email and fax folders into the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Open, sort, distribute, and data entry of EHR ROI incoming mail requests
  • Validation of release of information forms for completeness and accuracy
  • Identifies invalid requests and processes requests for return to the requestor for remediation
  • Extracts patient portal requests from work queues into EHR system and completes data entry
  • Manages phone calls and responds to status checks, requests for records, and basic questions about medical record releases
  • Processes basic non-billable requests
  • Use of appropriate distribution methods for records and processes these records using different technology methods and platforms.
  • Develops a sound knowledge of ROI processes required for on-call coverage/weekday coverage for various medical record scopes
  • Maintains patient confidentiality throughout day-to-day tasks
  • Becomes familiar with policies related to the ROI team
  • Utilizes multiple computer systems
  • Additional tasks as assigned
