Robotics Simulation information

What is robotics simulation?

Robotics simulation is the use of computer software to model and test the behavior of robots in a virtual environment. This allows engineers and researchers to design, program, and optimize robots without needing physical prototypes, saving time and resources. Simulations can replicate real-world conditions, enabling the analysis of robot movement, sensor data, and task performance before implementation. Robotics simulation is commonly used in developing autonomous systems, industrial automation, and research applications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Robotics Simulation Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Robotics Simulation Engineer, you need a strong background in robotics, computer science, and mathematics, often supported by a relevant degree such as electrical engineering or mechanical engineering. Familiarity with simulation tools like Gazebo, ROS (Robot Operating System), MATLAB/Simulink, and programming languages such as Python or C++ is essential. Problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective teamwork are key soft skills that help in designing and refining complex simulation models. These abilities are crucial for creating accurate simulations that accelerate development, testing, and deployment of robotic systems.

What is the difference between Robotics Simulation vs Robotics Software Engineer?

Common Search/ComparisonYesYes

Robotics Simulation focuses on creating virtual environments to test and validate robotic systems, while Robotics Software Engineers develop the actual software that controls robots. Both roles often collaborate but serve different stages of robotics development, with simulation emphasizing testing and validation, and software engineering focusing on implementation and coding.

What are some typical challenges faced when working in robotics simulation, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in robotics simulation often encounter challenges such as accurately modeling real-world physics, ensuring simulation fidelity, and integrating with hardware or software systems. Addressing these requires a strong understanding of both robotics and simulation tools, as well as effective collaboration with engineers, software developers, and testers. Staying updated with advancements in simulation platforms and maintaining clear documentation are key strategies to overcome these challenges and ensure the simulations provide meaningful insights for development and testing.

Job description

We are looking for a Solutions Architect, Robotics Simulation who is passionate about the ground-breaking potential of 3D simulation and generative AI in robotics. This is the era of Physical AI, where intelligent machines can learn, reason, and interact with the world. NVIDIA, through the Isaac, Omniverse and Cosmos platforms, is pioneering advancements in AI robotics by enabling autonomous systems to be first designed, simulated, trained, and tested in physically based realistic virtual environments. This role offers a unique chance to shape the rapid growing field of robotics AI & Simulation by driving adoption of NVIDIA's pioneering technologies with our key customers and partners. Join us in revolutionizing Physical AI!

What you'll be doing:

As a Robotics Solutions Architect (SA), you will help our partners integrate and develop accelerated Simulation and AI pipelines for Robotics applications. This role involves a mix of consulting, hands-on engineering, and collaboration with internal and external teams.

  • Act as technical expert to guide partners on solving complex robotics technical challenges by implementing end-to-end solutions using NVIDIA products.

  • Work directly with partners to help them scope and develop solutions for robotics learning and simulation, synthetic data generation, software in the loop testing, AI enhanced manipulation workflows using NVIDIA's Isaac Lab, Isaac Sim, Newton, Cosmos, and other relevant platforms.

  • Partner with Sales, NVIDIA Engineering, Product and other Solution Architect teams to drive NVIDIA full stack adoption. Develop a deep understanding of customer workflows and requirements, lead proof-of-concepts evaluations and provide internal feedback to drive continuous product improvements.

  • Share domain expertise with the NVIDIA solutions architect community and stay updated on advancements in robotics, AI, simulation and computer graphics.

What we need to see:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).

  • 4+ years of proven experience in robotics development, with experience in simulation and AI domains.

  • Proficiency in Python, with experience in robotics software frameworks like ROS/ROS2.

  • Familiarity with one or more Robotics Simulation frameworks (e.g., Isaac Lab, Isaac Sim, Newton, Warp, PhysX, MujoCo, Pybullet, Drake) and 3D workflows and tools (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine, Blender)

  • Applied experience with industrial robot arms, mobile manipulators, humanoids and/or dexterous hands, with emphasis on reinforcement learning, manipulation motion planning, grasping or control workflows.

  • Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.

  • Self-starter with passion for growth, learning, and multi-functional teamwork.

Ways to stand out from the crowd:

  • Familiarity with C++, CUDA, NVIDIA Warp or the Newton simulation engine.

  • Hands-on experience with Isaac Lab or Isaac Sim and with relevant data formats like Pixar's OpenUSD and URDF

  • Understanding of large-scale model training, reinforcement learning or distributed simulation on GPU clusters.

  • Experience with Generative AI models or Neural rendering workflows.

  • External, customer-facing skills and background.
