Job description

Essential Functions:

  • Provide safe, reliable, ergonomic systems and machines.
  • Configure systems and database settings for new cells and parts for traceable content.
  • Program PLCs, barcode readers, HMIs, Robots, and PCs as necessary.
  • Modify and upgrade as required existing production equipment.
  • Help develop and maintain cost effective general specifications and standards for machine controls and programming.
  • Coordinate all project controls/electrical activities to ensure that project timing, quality, and cost targets are attained.
  • Perform hands-on programming/debug/troubleshooting of numerous types of automation equipment.
  • Provide analysis, evaluation and review of problems regarding automation, advanced methods and equipment, and material handling.
  • Provide alternative solutions to anticipated or actual technical and/or business-related manufacturing problems.
  • Develop safeguards and improve team member safety through process improvements.
  • Conduct system / equipment training for plant and other personnel as required.
  • Provide trouble shooting assistance to production and maintenance team members.
  • Design new equipment or redesign existing equipment, and coordinate its fabrication, assembly, installation, and startup.
  • Ensure equipment and layouts are compliant with local and national codes.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining all written software program instructions.
  • Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles
  • Other duties as assigned by manager

Qualifications Required:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering / Computer Science Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years of manufacturing experience.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, robotics, machine vision and CAD.
  • Problem solving abilities; experience programming ABB or Fanuc robotics; strong PLC/HMI programming skills; power; motors & controls knowledge.
  • Strong computer and network skills and process expertise.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Open and frank, keen to see things through to completion.

  • Flexible, understands there is more than one way to accomplish a goal.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team and have the determination to succeed in a challenging environment.
