Job description

Company Overview:

MP Materials (NYSE: MP) is rebuilding American industrial capability for a new era of autonomy, robotics, and electrification.

We are the only U.S. company with a fully integrated rare earth supply chainโ€”from mining and refining to advanced metal and magnet manufacturing. Our products include both the critical materials used to make permanent magnets and the finished magnets themselvesโ€”enabling next-generation technologies in robotics, automation, aerospace, transportation, defense, and energy systems. These materials are the foundation of physical AIโ€”the convergence of computation, movement, and control.

We hire ambitious, mission-driven people who want to tackle complex challenges and shape the future of strategic industries. Our culture is rooted in teamwork, resiliency, and integrity, with a deep commitment to operational excellence and national purpose. MP is rapidly evolving from a materials producer into a leading U.S. manufacturerโ€”and our people are driving that transformation.

Position Overview:

MP Materials is seeking a Robotics Engineer to be an early member of its new Magnetics business located in Fort Worth, TX. This is an opportunity to be a part of building our team, our factory, and our culture as the Magnetics team helps to define the future of American manufacturing. The Physical Design Engineering team is responsible for working with our equipment vendors, general contractors, and with MP Materials manufacturing teams to ensure we are delivering the right products, on time, for each application. The Physical Design Engineering team must review manufacturing equipment and processes, recommend safe and reliable solutions, specify and oversee installation and commissioning of equipment, and support of future manufacturing expansion and automation.

The Robotics Engineering will play a critical role in identifying current and future process and transfer steps with a focus on automation. The successful candidate for this role will apply a deep understanding of relevant manufacturing processes to design automation equipment to replace fatigue inducing repetitive and time-consuming tasks. This engineer will focus on operations employeesโ€™ safety as well as product quality and integrity throughout the manufacturing process. The ideal Robotics Engineering candidate will also be experienced at working with automation vendors in the design and quoting processes, be a leader by example, action-oriented, willing to get their hands dirty, and have experience in leading technical teams.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research to determine the parameters of a robotic application.
  • Design, implement, and deploy robotic cells, systems, and components.
  • Advise Physical Design Engineering team on optimal robotic application layout and gripper design.
