How much do robotics consulting jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 14, 2026, the average yearly pay for robotics consulting in the United States is $96,000.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $90,000.00 and $102,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Is robotics a high paying career?

Robotics consulting is generally considered a high-paying career, especially for professionals with strong skills in engineering, programming, and systems integration. Salaries can vary based on experience, education, and location, but experienced robotics consultants often earn above average industry wages due to the specialized knowledge required. Certifications in robotics or related fields can also enhance earning potential.

What is the difference between Robotics Consulting vs Robotics Engineer?

AspectRobotics ConsultingRobotics Engineer
Required CredentialsBachelor's or higher in engineering, robotics, or related fields; certifications like Certified Robotics ProfessionalBachelor's or higher in robotics, mechanical, electrical, or computer engineering; often includes hands-on technical skills

Robotics Consulting involves advising clients on robotics solutions, project management, and system integration, often in a client-facing role. Robotics Engineers focus on designing, developing, and testing robotic systems. While both roles require technical knowledge, consulting emphasizes strategic planning and communication, whereas engineering emphasizes technical development and implementation.

What is robotics consulting?

Robotics consulting involves providing expert advice and solutions to organizations looking to implement, optimize, or troubleshoot robotic systems and automation processes. Robotics consultants assess client needs, recommend appropriate technologies, design custom robotic solutions, and assist with integration and training. Their work spans industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, and more, helping businesses increase efficiency, safety, and innovation through robotics. Consultants also stay current with the latest advancements to ensure clients benefit from cutting-edge technologies. Ultimately, they bridge the gap between technical robotics expertise and real-world business challenges.

What are some common challenges faced by robotics consultants when integrating new automation solutions into existing client operations?

Robotics consultants often encounter challenges such as aligning new automation technologies with legacy systems, managing resistance to change among client staff, and ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations. They must also balance technical requirements with budgetary and timeline constraints, while effectively communicating complex concepts to stakeholders with varying technical backgrounds. Navigating these challenges requires strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and a collaborative approach to ensure successful project outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a robotics consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Robotics Consultant, you need a strong background in robotics engineering, systems integration, and problem-solving, typically supported by a degree in engineering or computer science. Familiarity with programming languages (such as Python or C++), robotics simulation tools (e.g., ROS, Gazebo), and relevant certifications like Certified Robotics Professional are highly valued. Exceptional communication, project management, and client-facing skills help you effectively translate technical solutions into actionable business strategies. These skills are crucial for delivering innovative, practical robotics solutions that drive client success and industry advancement.

Job description

Robotics Consultant โ€“ Whole-Body Teleoperation & Control

Position Type: 6-Month Consulting Contract

Location/Eligibility: This is a contract position based in Massachusetts. You must be able to commute to the Wilmington area onsite at least 3 days a week. For this contract, there is no visa sponsorship available.

The Mission

We are seeking an expert Robotics Consultant for a 6-month engagement to pioneer our Whole-Body Teleoperation framework. Working alongside our core autonomy team, you will bridge the gap between human intent and high-DOF robotic execution. You will be responsible for designing advanced whole-body controllers, developing robust manipulation pipelines, and setting up the simulation-to-real (Sim2Real) infrastructure required to bring a humanoid or high-DOF robot to life.

Core Responsibilities

Teleoperation Architecture: Design and implement intuitive, low-latency whole-body teleoperation pipelines for high-DOF robotic systems.

Whole-Body Control (WBC): Develop and optimize multi-objective whole-body controllers that balance manipulation accuracy, balance, and dynamic stability.

Sim2Real & Reinforcement Learning: Stand up and refine reinforcement learning (RL) pipelines in physics-based simulators, ensuring policies successfully transfer to physical hardware without degradation.

Hardware Validation: Deploy, test, and debug control policies on physical platforms, rapidly iterating on live teleoperation performance.

Technical Requirements (Must-Have)

Advanced Academic Background: Current PhD student or recent PhD graduate/Postdoc in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.

Proven Research Track Record: A strong publication history (e.g., ICRA, IROS, RSS, ToR) directly focused on whole-body manipulation, whole-body control, or teleoperation for humanoids or quadrupeds/manipulators.

Simulation Mastery: Proficient in setting up complex simulation environments (e.g., Isaac Sim/Gym, MuJoCo, Drake) for dynamic robotic tasks.

Software Competence: Strong programming skills in Python and/or C++ within a Linux development ecosystem.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)

Experience with VR-based teleoperation interfaces, haptic feedback devices, or exoskeleton-based human tracking.

Direct experience with real-time Linux environments (PREEMPT_RT) and low-level actuator communication loops.

Duration: 6 Months (with the potential for extension).

Environment: A high-velocity,R&D lab environment pushing the boundaries of physical AI.
