Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join a specialized Neuro Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU). In this role, you will provide comprehensive, patient-centered critical care for patients with complex neurological conditions while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to deliver exceptional clinical outcomes.
The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating patient care, while educating patients and families and supporting discharge planning throughout the continuum of care.
Responsibilities:
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for critically ill neurological patients.
Coordinate care with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
Monitor and manage patients with complex neurological and critical care conditions.
Administer medications, treatments, and interventions according to physician orders and hospital protocols.
Monitor patient status and respond rapidly to changes in condition.
Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, recovery, and discharge needs.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
Promote patient safety and ensure compliance with evidence-based nursing standards.
Participate in discharge planning and care coordination.
Support a collaborative, patient-centered care environment.
Patient Population
The Neuro ICU cares for patients with a variety of neurological and critical care conditions, including:
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
Ischemic Stroke
Intracerebral & Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
Spinal Cord Injury
Post-Neurosurgical and Neurointerventional Procedures
Brain and Central Nervous System Tumors
Status Epilepticus
Guillain-Barré Syndrome
Myasthenia Gravis
Critical care overflow from Medical, Surgical, and Cardiac ICUs
Qualifications
Required
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license (or eligibility for Hawaii RN licensure).
Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).
Current BLS certification.
Current ACLS certification.
Current PALS certification, or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
Minimum 12 months of ICU nursing experience, preferably within the past three years.
Strong critical thinking, communication, and clinical assessment skills.
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Preferred
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Previous Neuro ICU or Critical Care experience.
Experience caring for stroke, trauma, or neurosurgical patients.
