Registered Nurse (RN) - Injection Specialist

Location: Los Lunas Men's Recovery Academy

Job Type: Part Time, per-diem

Rate: $50/hr

Schedule: Variable, part time


Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our clinical team supporting individuals receiving treatment for substance use disorders. This role focuses on the safe administration of long-acting injectable medications to support recovery and treatment adherence.


The RN will administer medications in accordance with provider orders, clinical protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include patient assessment, medication administration, monitoring for adverse reactions, and accurate documentation. This position also supports clinic operations through patient intake processes and specimen collection.


The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care in a recovery-focused environment.


Key Responsibilities

โ€ข Administer injectable medications as ordered by licensed providers and within the RN scope of practice. Injection types may include, but are not limited to:

- Intramuscular (IM)

- Subcutaneous (SQ)

- Long-acting injectable medications used in substance use disorder treatment and other indicated therapies.

โ€ข Verify medication orders, confirm patient identity, and assess patient readiness prior to medication administration.

โ€ข Provide patient education regarding medication purpose, treatment expectations, potential side effects, and follow-up care.

โ€ข Monitor patients for adverse reactions following medication administration and respond according to clinical protocols and emergency procedures if necessary.

โ€ข Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).

โ€ข Follow all infection prevention, medication safety, and sharps disposal protocols.

โ€ข Complete patient check-in procedures including identity verification, appointment confirmation, and coordination with clinical staff.

โ€ข Collect urine specimens for drug screening (UA) in accordance with clinic protocols and chain-of-custody requirements.

โ€ข Safely transport and document urine specimens following established clinical and regulatory procedures.

โ€ข Maintain strict patient confidentiality and comply with all applicable privacy laws including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.

โ€ข Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team.

โ€ข Participate in required training, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing education related to medication administration and addiction medicine.

โ€ข Ensure medications and clinical supplies are stored, secured, and managed according to regulatory standards and organizational policies.


Controlled Substance Handling

This position may involve handling, preparation, documentation, and administration of controlled substances used in medication-assisted treatment (MAT). The RN must adhere to all applicable DEA regulations, state regulations, and organizational policies governing the storage, handling, documentation, and administration of controlled medications.

Qualifications

โ€ข Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New Mexico in good standing.

โ€ข Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in outpatient care, behavioral health, addiction treatment, or a hospital setting.

โ€ข Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

โ€ข Demonstrated competency in medication administration and injection techniques.

โ€ข Knowledge of pharmacology principles, medication safety, and patient monitoring.

โ€ข Strong communication and patient education skills.

โ€ข Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary care team.

โ€ข Commitment to maintaining patient dignity, safety, and confidentiality.
