Job description

This position performs sewing operations on all types of aerospace products, operates industrial or commercial sewing machines, holding close tolerances. 

Required:

  • Experience in an aerospace or industrial softgoods lab environment with emphasis on softgoods design and fabrication.

  • Experience operating softgood fabrication equipment including sewing machines, heat sealer, rivet press, power tools and hand tools.

  • Successfully pass a sewing test administered during interview to demonstrate capabilities. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team.

Requisition Preferences:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is desired.

  • Ability to read, understand and create fabrication drawings and sketches.

  • Experience with fabrication processes for prototyping and flight softgood products.

  • Experience with NASA/JSC, aerospace industry softgood design and development.

  • Ability to create patterns and develop mockups for verifying form, fit and function of softgood articles.

  • Make machine set-ups for various types of material, including adjusting tension

  • Perform sewing operations on industrial or commercial sewing machines and by hand as required

  • Perform cementing, cutting, and minor assembly operations

  • Work with chemicals (i.e. adhesives and solvents) and Fabrics (fiberglass and ceramic)

  • Follow written and verbal detailed instruction and read patterns/drawings

  • Perform other duties as required
