Reports To: Maintenance Director

Summary/Objective

Provide maintenance expertise in the Processing facilities working as a team member to make sure that food products are processed according to quality specifications and customer needs.

Essential Functions

Ability to Maintain Processing Equipment that Produces Products for Customers:

  • Hydraulic Systems: To include, but not be limited to, hydraulic motors as well as pumps, pressure switches, directional flow control valves, check valves, hydraulic manifolding, as well as piping and hydraulic fittings.
  • Pneumatics: To include but not be limited to, cylinders, air motors, control valves and pip-ing, and an ability to interpret pneumatic schematics.
  • Welding Skills: To include, but not be limited to, the use of an oxy-acetylene cutting torch, oxy-acetylene welding, copper pipe soldering, stick welding on mild steel as well as stainless steel, and TIG (Heli-arc) welding of aluminum and stainless steel.
  • Electrical: A basic understanding of electricity in both single phase and three phase power for 110V, 230V, and 480V; an understanding of micro-switches, solid state relays, photo electric switches and sensors, and inductive proximity switches. Also, beneficial would be any experience with programmable logic controllers and computers.
  • Industrial Shop Tools: To include but not be limited to, the use of grinders and cutoff saws, band saws, drill presses, hydraulic presses, and pipe threading equipment. Also, a basic understanding of the operation of a lathe would be beneficial.
  • Experience: Previous work experience as a mechanic in food processing plants or fish processing plants would be desired. Most power tools are supplied by the company, but you will need to have your own hand tools (standard and metric).
  • Ability to work on various processing machines and equipment as required.
  • Communicate and Work as a Team Member
  • Participate in some discussion about confidential/sensitive matters.
  • Communicate with employees and others through written, oral and face-to-face interactions.
  • Assist other team members in completion of work.
  • Communicate with fellow employees to complete tasks and adhere to safety standards.
  • Ability to work flexible work schedules with varying hours as required.
  • Miscellaneous Duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

Work Environment

The worker is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Worker will be exposed to below freezing environments on occasion. The worker is subject to noise. The worker can be subject to cold and wet conditions.

Physical Demands

This job involves medium work exerting force occasionally and frequently to move objects.

The worker will be required to have a range of motion as follows:

  • Often requires walking, moving or climbing to accomplish tasks.
  • Often requires standing for sustained periods of time.
  • Occasionally requires stooping and reaching.
  • Occasionally requires pushing using upper extremities to press against something with steady force.
  • Occasionally requires pulling using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Lifting is required on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to use a pallet jack is required.
  • Often requires feeling of products perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  • Repetitive motions are required which involve substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Full-Time Position: Work 5 days a week, week days and some weekends as required

Expected Hours: 8 Hours a day start time will vary as needed.

Required Education and Experience

  • Successful applicant is expected to stay in the position for 6 months.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • High School Graduate or GED preferred
  • Experience providing maintenance in food/agriculture setting preferred
