Job description

DESCRIPTION The City of Hanford is seeking to fill six (6) seasonal vacancies for Ice Rink Maintenance Technician to work at Winter Wonderland (seasonal ice rink). This position is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and upkeep of the city ice rink, including, but not limited to, maintaining the quality of the ice surface, performing routine maintenance tasks, and ensuring the safety and functionality of rink equipment. Perform other duties as related.

Work is performed in an outdoor ice rink, which can be cold. The working hours will vary depending on the working assignment. The position may be assigned to work split shifts, evenings, early mornings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.

Please note these are part-time, temporary positions not to exceed 1,000 hours per fiscal year and afford no benefits. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives immediate supervision from an assigned supervisor; may receive technical and functional supervision from the Ice Rink Manager. EXAMPLE OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES Ice surface maintenance, including regularly inspecting and maintaining the ice surface to ensure optimal quality and safety.

Resurfacing the ice rink utilizing Zamboni or other equipment, repairing cracks or imperfections, and managing the ice temperature and humidity. Operate and maintain rink equipment, including resurfacing machines, snow removal tools, and refrigeration systems. Performs routine inspections and minor repairs as needed.

Maintain the overall cleanliness and functionality of the rink and surrounding areas, including the park, seating areas, and public restrooms. Ensure that all facilities comply with health and safety regulations. Monitor and manage supplies and equipment inventory.

Order replacements and ensure all tools and materials are correctly stored and maintained. Assist with event setup and coordination as required. Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment usage, and any issues encountered.

Prepare reports as needed for management review. Using principles of good customer service, build and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, other City employees, and the public. Foster an environment that embraces diversity, integrity, trust, and respect.

Be an integral team player involving flexibility, cooperation, and communication. Performs related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Common tools and materials used in the area of assignment.

Repair and maintenance procedures and practices. Safe work practices. Ice resurfacing equipment and refrigeration systems.

Skill in: Strong mechanical and technical skills. Attention to detail. Customer service.

Ability to: Perform maintenance activities related to the area of assignment. Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure a safe environment for staff and patrons. Address any concerns or issues raised by rink users, including players, coaches, and spectators, to provide excellent customer service.

Troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently. Communicate effectively in written and oral form. Comfortably work in cold environments.

Operate heavy equipment. Maintain daily records and logs. Perform physical tasks, such as heavy manual labor, lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Maintain regular attendance and adhere to prescribed work schedule to conduct job responsibilities. Experience and Education Any combination of experience, training, and education which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: Experience: Prior experience in maintenance or a related field and experience with ice resurfacing equipment and refrigeration systems is preferred.

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. License and Certificate Possession of a valid California driver's license. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Screening will consist of a competitive assessment of relevant education, training, and work experience to be followed by a written examination and/or an interview before an Oral Board to determine the most qualified candidates.

Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement to an interview, and the decision of the screening committee is final. Those candidates who are determined eligible for appointment to the position will be placed on the City's Certified Eligibility List. Applicants will receive written notification regarding the results of all phases of the recruitment process up to the establishment of the Eligibility List, if applicable.
