Job description

RN For Student In Schools

The Caswood Group is looking to fill a long-term need for an RN to work with a student all school days starting July 13 and continue into next school year. This would include a morning bus run with the student, support the student all day at school, and then ride the bus back in the afternoon. It would be for summer and school year, school days only. Must be able to support a student with intellectual disabilities, severe diabetes, tracheostomy and feeding support. The Caswood Group will supply orientation and support as well as training with school team.

This position is an 8-9 hour day.

The 1:1 Registered Nurse for Student in Schools plays a critical role in providing personalized healthcare support to students with specific medical needs within the educational environment. This position ensures the safety, well-being, and health management of the assigned student by delivering direct nursing care, monitoring health status, and implementing individualized healthcare plans. The nurse collaborates closely with school staff, families, and healthcare providers to facilitate effective communication and continuity of care. By maintaining accurate health records and responding promptly to medical emergencies, the nurse supports the student's ability to participate fully in school activities. Ultimately, this role contributes to creating a safe and supportive learning environment that promotes the student's academic and social development while addressing their health requirements.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) NYS license
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) a plus
  • Experience providing nursing care to pediatric patients, preferably in school or community settings.
  • Diabetic Experience a MUST
  • Strong knowledge of common pediatric health conditions and emergency response protocols.
  • Ability to pass background checks and meet school district health and safety requirements.
  • Must be available all school days 7:30am - 4:00pm (approximately, TBD)
  • Must ride bus with student
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working as a 1:1 nurse or in a school nursing role.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one nursing care to the assigned student, including medication administration, monitoring vital signs, and managing medical equipment as needed.
  • Develop, implement, and update individualized healthcare plans in collaboration with healthcare providers, parents, and school personnel.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies or changes in the student's health status during school hours.
  • Maintain detailed and confidential health records, documenting all nursing interventions, observations, and communications.
  • Educate school staff and peers about the student's health needs and necessary accommodations to promote understanding and support.
  • Coordinate with external healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care and adherence to prescribed treatment plans.
  • Advocate for the student's health and safety within the school setting, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and regulations.
