What is an RF engineer?

RF Engineers in Germany are professionals who design, implement, and maintain radio frequency systems used in telecommunications, broadcasting, and wireless networks. Their work involves optimizing signal transmission and reception, troubleshooting interference issues, and ensuring regulatory compliance with German and EU standards. They often collaborate with hardware and software teams to develop solutions for mobile networks, satellite communications, and other RF applications. The role typically requires a degree in electrical engineering or a related field, along with specialized knowledge of RF principles and German industry regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an RF engineer in Germany, and why are they important?

To thrive as an RF Engineer in Germany, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, telecommunications, and radio frequency theory, usually supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with RF simulation tools (such as CST or HFSS), spectrum analyzers, and certification in standards like ETSI or 3GPP is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and effective communication skills distinguish top performers in this role. These skills and qualifications are crucial to ensure high-quality RF design, compliance with industry standards, and successful collaboration within multidisciplinary project teams.

What are some common challenges RF engineers face when working on wireless network projects in Germany?

RF Engineers in Germany often encounter challenges such as optimizing network coverage in densely populated urban areas, adhering to strict local regulations regarding electromagnetic emissions, and coordinating with multiple teams to ensure seamless network integration. Additionally, adapting to evolving technologies like 5G and managing interference in shared frequency bands can be demanding. Effective collaboration with site acquisition, field teams, and regulatory authorities is crucial for overcoming these challenges and delivering high-quality network performance.

What is the difference between Rf Engineer Germany vs Radio Frequency Technician Germany?

AspectRf Engineer GermanyRadio Frequency Technician Germany
CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, RF or CommunicationsTechnical diploma or associate degree in electronics or RF technology
Work EnvironmentDesign, development, and testing of RF systems, often in labs or officesInstallation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of RF equipment on-site
Industry UsageTelecommunications, aerospace, defense, and researchBroadcasting, telecom infrastructure, and service providers

While both roles involve RF technology, Rf Engineers Germany focus on designing and developing RF systems, whereas Radio Frequency Technicians Germany handle installation and maintenance. The roles complement each other within the telecommunications and electronics industries, with Rf Engineers typically working in design labs and technicians on-site ensuring operational functionality.

Job description

Narda Safety Test Solutions, based in Germany, develops advanced RF spectrum analyzers, monitoring receivers, interference-hunting systems and radio direction-finding solutions. You will be part of Narda-MITEQ in the United States and work closely with Narda STS sales, product management and application teams in Germany.

Job Description

Narda-MITEQ is looking for a former U.S. military professional with hands-on Electronic Warfare experience to support U.S. defense customers. The position is employed by Narda-MITEQ and is 100% focused on Narda Safety Test Solutions spectrum-monitoring, interference-hunting and radio direction-finding solutions. In this highly visible customer-facing role, you will work directly with military users, operational stakeholders, program teams and industry partners to understand mission needs and demonstrate practical solutions in the field.

Essential Functions
  • Develop the U.S. defense market for SignalShark by identifying operational units, programs, integrators and mission partners where spectrum monitoring, RF detection and direction finding can solve emerging EW requirements.
  • Build relationships with Army, Joint, SOCOM, National Guard, test organizations, laboratories and defense integrators and create opportunities for SignalShark demonstrations, evaluations, exercises and experimentation events.
  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert during customer meetings, demonstrations, evaluations, operational exercises and mission-focused engagements.
  • Plan and deliver hands-on demonstrations and mission briefings for Army, DoD, government and defense-industry users.
  • Turn operational requirements and CONOPS into practical system configurations, workflows and use cases.
  • Support spectrum awareness, signal detection, interference hunting, RF analysis and radio direction finding.
  • Work alongside sales on customer engagements, technical evaluations, proposals, documentation and follow-up activities.
  • Travel throughout the United States and internationally to support demonstrations, training events, exercises, customer deployments and operational support requirements.
Qualifications
  • Prior U.S. military service, ideally in EW, EMSO, ISR, SIGINT, ELINT, CEMA, spectrum management or tactical communications.
  • Operational credibility and the ability to brief, train and demonstrate equipment to military users.
  • Hands-on experience with spectrum analyzers, monitoring receivers, SDRs, RF sensors, direction-finding systems or comparable mission equipment.
  • Practical understanding of RF, antennas, propagation, interference and the electromagnetic operating environment.
  • Leadership experience at Sergeant First Class (E-7) level or above is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
Education/Experience
  • BS in engineering is preferred but not required.
  • Typically, 4+ years of relevant professional or military experience with a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Equivalent combinations of education, military training, technical training, certifications and directly relevant experience may be considered based on the candidate's overall qualifications.
  • Relevant military training, technical schools, certifications and demonstrated field experience are valued
  • Mission experience, operational credibility and the ability to connect technology to the needs of miliary users and operational stakeholders are particularly important to success in this role.

Base salary will be determined based on the candidate’s relevant military and industry experience, technical expertise, security-clearance status, and ability to support customer demonstrations, training, field evaluations, and mission-focused engagements.

Salary Range: $90,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year.
