Job description

Summary
**Candidates must have a primary address located within the state of Michigan or willing to move to Michigan to be considered.**
The Revenue Cycle Architect provides enterprise-level technical leadership for the design, optimization, governance, and strategic evolution of revenue cycle processes, systems, and technologies across MyMichigan Health. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive revenue cycle architecture that supports patient access, charging, coding, billing, claims management, reimbursement, denial prevention, and revenue integrity initiatives.
This position focuses on long-term strategy related to revenue cycle design, standardization, governance, risk mitigation, system optimization, and financial sustainability rather than day-to-day operational support. The Revenue Cycle Architect serves as a subject matter expert and strategic advisor, enabling operational teams while reducing organizational risk, inefficiencies, and revenue leakage.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(35%) Enterprise Revenue Cycle Architecture & Standards
  • Define and maintain enterprise revenue cycle architecture across Epic Revenue Cycle applications, third-party solutions, and operational workflows.
  • Establish and enforce revenue cycle standards, best practices, and governance frameworks that promote consistency, compliance, and operational efficiency.
  • Design future-state workflows and system configurations that support organizational financial goals and industry best practices.
  • Ensure alignment between revenue cycle operations, clinical workflows, regulatory requirements, and enterprise strategic objectives.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of revenue cycle processes, system dependencies, and architectural standards.

(25%) Strategic Leadership & Enablement
  • Assist with development and maintenance of the enterprise revenue cycle roadmap.
  • Evaluate Epic functionality, third-party applications, and vendor solutions to support organizational objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce administrative burden, enhance reimbursement, and minimize revenue leakage.
  • Partner with operational, technical, compliance, and analytics teams to identify, prioritize, implement, and measure AI, automation, and predictive analytics use cases that improve revenue cycle performance and workforce efficiency.
  • Align revenue cycle strategy with organizational financial, operational, regulatory, and patient experience goals.
  • Support business case development and prioritization of revenue cycle investments, including emerging technologies and AI-driven initiatives.

(20%) Strategic Alignment & Roadmap Development
  • Assist with development and maintenance of the enterprise revenue cycle roadmap.
  • Evaluate Epic functionality, third-party applications, and vendor solutions to support organizational objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce administrative burden, enhance reimbursement, and minimize revenue leakage.
  • Align revenue cycle strategy with organizational financial, operational, regulatory, and patient experience goals.

(10%) Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate with Revenue Integrity, Patient Access, Health Information Management, Clinical Operations, Finance, Analytics, Compliance, and Information Technology teams.
  • Serve as a strategic liaison between operational stakeholders, technology teams, vendors, and external partners.
  • Participate in governance committees, steering committees, and architecture review boards.
  • Facilitate alignment between revenue cycle initiatives and enterprise-wide strategic priorities.

(10%) Risk Mitigation, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
  • Architect solutions that minimize compliance risks, denials, reimbursement issues, and revenue leakage.
  • Evaluate regulatory changes and payer requirements for impacts to revenue cycle workflows and systems.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action planning related to revenue cycle performance issues.
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory developments, and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Recommend innovative approaches that improve financial performance, operational efficiency, and organizational sustainability.

Required Education
BACHELORS DEGREE
Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Healthcare Informatics, or related field required. Master's Degree preferred.
Other Information
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND SKILLS:
8-10+ years of Healthcare IT experience or equivalent experience.
3+ years in an architecture or technical leadership role.
Deep expertise with Epic Bridges and interface engines (e.g., Rhapsody).
Strong knowledge of HL7, FHIR, APIs, and batch integrations.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Epic certifications preferred.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level:Sedentary. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 0-10 lbs.
