As part of IA Interior Architects, we combine the focus, expertise, and agility of a dedicated retail studio with the reach and perspective of a global design leader. Our work spans continents, time zones, and sectors, from high-concept flagships to complex, large-scale rollouts. Wherever we work, our approach is human-centered, grounded in insight, and driven by consumer experience. 

Joining our team requires skill, leadership, teaming, humor and a love of retail. We are presently searching for an Intermediate Designer or Designer for the Retail Studio. 

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Contributes to the development of retail design concepts across a variety of sectors, including financial services, grocery, food & beverage, and store environments
  • Supports the translation of brand identity into engaging, customer-focused spatial experiences
  • Assists in developing planning strategies including customer flow, service models, and merchandising or operational layouts appropriate to each sector
  • Produces concept materials including mood boards, presentations, and visualizations to communicate design intent
  • Prepares and develops space plans, layouts, and design drawings with guidance from senior team members
  • Collaborates with project teams to ensure design intent is carried through technical documentation and execution
  • Assists in the selection and specification of FF&E, finishes, and materials aligned with brand, durability, and operational requirements
  • Coordinates with consultants, vendors, and internal teams to support design development and project delivery
  • Participates in client meetings and presentations, supporting the communication of design ideas
  • Reviews drawings and details for accuracy and consistency with design intent
  • Supports the development of fixture and furniture packages across multiple retail formats
  • Works with the project team to align design solutions with budget and schedule constraints
  • Ensures design solutions comply with codes, accessibility standards, and operational requirements

Education

  • Graduate of architecture or design school

Work Experience

  • 3-6 years of experience 
  • Must have experience working with Retail Design Projects

Knowledge, Skills, and Responsibilities:

  • Strong design and conceptual thinking skills, with interest in brand-driven environments across multiple retail sectors
  • Understanding of retail design principles, including customer experience, service environments, and operational planning
  • Ability to support design solutions across diverse retail formats (e.g., banking, grocery, food & beverage, and store environments)
  • Experience with FF&E selection and materiality, with awareness of performance and durability needs
  • Proficiency in visual communication, including rendering, diagrams, and presentations
  • Working knowledge of interior architecture, detailing, and construction documentation
  • Familiarity with building systems, codes, and accessibility requirements
  • Ability to balance creativity with technical requirements and project constraints
  • Proficient in Revit, Endscape, Adobe Creative Suite and rendering software
  • Handsketching and Design Development
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
