About us:
Working at Target means helping all families discover the joy of everyday life. We bring that vision to life through our values and culture. Learn more about Target here.

Target's physical stores are a critical expression of that promise-and a key focus in our next chapter. Guided by our commitment to style, design, and value, the Architecture & Guest Experience (AGx) team is evolving how we design and deliver stores, bringing together architecture, interiors, and fixtures to create more integrated and design-led environments across our portfolio.

We are building toward a more design-led future-where our stores are not only efficient and buildable, but also more intentional, expressive, and differentiated, creating better experiences for our guests at scale.

About the role:

As a Senior Designer on the Architecture team, you will operate at the intersection of design and technical execution-translating guest experience, brand, and business strategies into architecturally sound, buildable solutions.

This role is responsible for taking design intent and adapting it to real-world conditions-developing site-specific architectural solutions that respond to location, code, cost, and constructability constraints while preserving and elevating the integrity of the design. You will bring a clear design point of view and apply it to shape architectural outcomes that are both compelling and buildable.

You will own discrete projects and contribute to broader programs across new stores, remodels, prototype evolution, and innovation efforts. You will work with a high degree of autonomy while building strong cross-functional relationships, navigating ambiguity, and making thoughtful decisions that move work forward.

What you'll do:

  • Translate brand, design principles, and loosely defined briefs into compelling, site-specific architectural solutions with a strong point of view

  • Develop building elevations, site adaptations, and jurisdictional submittal packages that respond to local requirements while maintaining and enhancing design intent

  • Represent and advocate for design intent in conversations with municipalities, developers, and internal partners-balancing brand, budget, and regulatory needs

  • Advance design work from Feasibility and Schematic Design through Construction, guiding consultants to ensure alignment with both design intent and technical requirements

  • Review and provide direction on construction documentation, applying sound judgment to maintain quality, consistency, and constructability without compromising design quality

  • Support projects through construction by helping resolve field questions and adapting solutions as needed while preserving the core design vision

  • Balance design ambition with cost, schedule, and operational realities-making informed tradeoffs that prioritize what matters most for the guest experience

  • Apply design solutions within scalable systems and prototypes while contributing to their evolution and elevating overall design quality

  • Collaborate across Architecture, Construction, Engineering, Store Planning, Real Estate, and Brand/Marketing to align on cohesive outcomes and bring diverse perspectives into the work

  • Communicate ideas clearly and persuasively through drawings, models, and storytelling, tailoring approach to different audiences and situations

About you:

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture (Master's preferred)

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in architecture or retail design

  • Demonstrated ability to translate design concepts into site-specific architectural solutions

  • Strong design judgment and a clear point of view, with the ability to translate brand and design principles into thoughtful, compelling architectural outcomes

  • Experience producing and/or reviewing construction documentation in partnership with consultants

  • Understanding of building systems, materials, detailing, and constructability

  • Familiarity with adapting designs to codes, zoning, and jurisdictional requirements

  • Comfortable engaging with municipalities, developers, consultants, and construction partners

  • Ability to balance creative design thinking with scalable, repeatable solutions

  • Sound judgment-knows when to lead, when to ask questions, and how to leverage partners effectively

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build trust and advocate for design intent across teams

  • Ability to represent ideas through sketching, 3D modeling, and visual communication tools (e.g., SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite or similar)

  • Self-directed and accountable
