Job Duties and Responsibilities: Allocation for this position will be approximately 50% teaching, 50% research
The successful candidate must demonstrate expertise in natural resource and water economics, with emphasis on water use, conservation, and allocation in agricultural and resource-dependent systems; the ability and interest to teach undergraduate and master's-level courses in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness and to contribute economic expertise to doctoral training in the Water Science and Management program in face-to-face and online formats; and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary research teams addressing water, agriculture, energy, and natural resource issues. The candidate must also demonstrate the ability to publish in relevant, high-quality scholarly outlets; develop and sustain externally funded research; and advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Given the diverse and multicultural nature of the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES), strong communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills are essential. Although the position does not carry a joint appointment, the faculty member is expected to work collaboratively with other departments and units engaged in research, teaching, and outreach related to water and natural resource economics.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching, research, and service in natural resource and water economics to support the mission of the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences. Water use and conservation are central pillars of the College, and this position is expected to maintain and expand water economics as a core program strength. The faculty member will teach undergraduate and master's-level courses in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness, contribute economic expertise to the Ph.D. program in Water Science and Management, and mentor student research, theses, and dissertations. The position requires active collaboration with faculty, students, and researchers across ACES to support interdisciplinary research, enhance grant competitiveness, and address critical water challenges facing New Mexico. the position also will foster collaborations and participate in activities and on research teams that support the work of the Center for Excellence in Sustainable Food and Agricultural Systems (CESFAS.) While no formal Extension appointment is included, engagement with stakeholders and contribution to applied, policy-relevant research are expected. The faculty member will also participate in university, college, and departmental service and contribute to the profession.
The AEAB department offers undergraduate majors in Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Business and in Natural Resource Economics and Policy. The department also contributes to graduate programs including a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics; a Master of Agriculture with an emphasis in Agribusiness; an MBA with a specialization in Agricultural Business; a Doctorate in Economic Development offered jointly with the Department of Economics, Applied Statistics and International Business in the College of Business; and a Ph.D. in Water Science and Management.
