How much do wind energy research jobs pay per hour?
What is the difference between Wind Energy Research vs Wind Turbine Technician?
| Aspect | Wind Energy Research | Wind Turbine Technician |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Degree in engineering, physics, or related field | Technical diploma or certification in turbine maintenance |
| Work Environment | Laboratories, research facilities, offices | On-site at wind farms, outdoor environments |
| Industry Usage | Design, development, and testing of wind energy systems | Installation, maintenance, and repair of turbines |
Wind Energy Research focuses on developing and improving wind energy technologies through scientific study, often working in labs or offices. In contrast, Wind Turbine Technicians perform hands-on maintenance and repairs at wind farm sites. Both roles are essential in the wind energy industry but differ in their focus, environment, and required skills.

Job description
Founded in 1936, the National Wildlife Federation has grown into America's largest and most trusted grassroots conservation organization with 52 state/territorial affiliates and more than six million members and supporters, including hunters, anglers, gardeners, birders, hikers, campers, paddlers, and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and stripes. The mission of the National Wildlife Federation is to unite all Americans to ensure wildlife thrive in our rapidly changing world. We advance this mission through programming focused on conserving wildlife, restoring habitats and waterways, expanding outdoor opportunities, connecting children with nature, advancing environmental justice, and addressing the causes and consequences of climate change.
NWF's Offshore Wind Energy Program sits within the Climate & Energy Program and works to advance the responsible development of offshore wind energy off of the East Coast, West Coast, and Gulf Coast. We advocate at the federal, state, and local levels to establish and implement ambitious offshore wind commitments and to ensure stringent wildlife protections, strong labor standards, community benefits, and stakeholder engagement are in place every step of the way.
The Northeast Campaign Manager, Offshore Wind Energy joins a robust team and will lead significant portions of offshore wind advocacy in the Northeast region (New England, New York, New Jersey), working with regional and state-specific coalitions. In this role, you will collaborate with others on the Offshore Wind Energy team on campaign strategy and planning, implement priority campaign activities, and cultivate new and existing partnerships. This position reports to the Senior Campaign Manager, Offshore Wind Energy.
Your major areas of responsibility:
- Lead and manage portions of state and regional Offshore Wind Energy campaigns across New England, New York, and New Jersey, in close coordination with the Offshore Wind Energy team and regional colleagues:
- Co-develop campaign plans (goals, theory of change, target decision-makers, stakeholder mapping, tactics, timelines, and roles) for priority state and regional efforts.
- Drive execution of integrated campaign tactics (communications, digital, and field/organizing) in partnership with communications staff and other internal teams.
- Track campaign progress using measurable goals, milestones, and deliverables; synthesize results, lessons learned, and recommendations for adjustments.
- Build, maintain, and deepen relationships with coalition partners and stakeholders (including environmental justice, labor, community, and industry-aligned groups as appropriate) to advance shared objectives.
- Represent NWF in coalition meetings, stakeholder convenings, and with decision-makers; support preparation for public hearings, briefings, comment opportunities, and other advocacy moments.
- Facilitate internal and external education and information sharing on offshore wind transmission and related policy objectives; translate technical and policy issues into accessible materials for partners and other audiences.
- Coordinate with policy staff to provide technical support to partners and coalitions, including research, drafting, and review of campaign and advocacy materials as needed.
- Manage select consultants, partner agreements, and related budgets as assigned; support grant reporting by documenting activities, outputs, and outcomes.
- Serve as a primary liaison to internal staff in the region to ensure alignment across state/regional priorities, messaging, and stakeholder engagement.
- Complete administrative and operational tasks that enable effective campaign delivery, including scheduling, note-taking, travel coordination, and maintaining organized digital records.
Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of relevant experience
- Experience using inclusive approaches in organizing campaigns, leading multi-stakeholder coalitions, and working across differences
- Demonstrated campaign experience, including developing strategy, executing tactics, and tracking progress toward measurable goals and deliverables
- Knowledge of or experience with advocating for policy solutions at the state level
- Demonstrated experience utilizing environmental justice organizing principles - recognizes the role of race, gender, and other identities in shaping perspectives, and the disparate impacts our existing energy system has on marginalized communities
- Strategic thinking and vision - quickly grasps the subtleties of complex issues, and identifies ways to tackle problems with insight and equity and a solutions orientation
- Capably leads partners in articulating shared goals and strategies.
- Excellent writer and communicator; able to translate complex policy and technical topics into clear, compelling materials for diverse audiences and to facilitate productive conversations with partners and decision-makers
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, with a track record of navigating and strengthening established relationships with partners and stakeholders
- Strong sense of ownership and attention to detail - takes the lead in developing their own work and planning ahead
- Bounces back from setbacks, and identifies alternatives
