Role Title: AVP, Accounting Operations
The AVP in Accounting Operations is responsible for leading the day-to-day accounting operations function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, timely close processes, and operational excellence. This role oversees accounting staff, oversees payroll and expense accounting, manages balance sheet reconciliations and journal entry processes, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and partners closely with Finance, Operations, Actuarial, IT, and external stakeholders to support organizational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close activities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation, review, and approval of journal entries.
  • Oversee balance sheet reconciliations and resolution of outstanding reconciling items.
  • Monitor financial results and perform variance analysis to identify trends and risks.
  • Support internal and external reporting requirements, including audit requests.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate audit activities and provide supporting documentation as needed.
  • Monitor adherence to accounting procedures and identify control enhancement opportunities.
  • Manage and develop a team of accounting professionals through coaching, performance management, and career development.
  • Establish priorities and allocate resources to meet close and reporting deadlines.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to streamline accounting processes and reduce manual activities.
  • Lead initiatives focused on automation, standardization, and operational efficiency.
  • Communicate financial and operational issues, risks, and recommendations to leadership.
  • Support strategic projects, acquisitions, integrations, and business initiatives as required.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience with general ledger systems, account reconciliations, and close processes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems.
  • Preferred experience overseeing Fixed Asset accounting, Intercompany/Inter-unit accounting, expense accounting, and Payroll accounting functions, including related reconciliations, controls, reporting, and process improvements.

These estimates consider a wide range of factors in making base salary decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.
In addition to salary, Resolution Life US offers a comprehensive benefits package, including our health & wellness program, incentive and recognition programs, and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The range for the role may differ based on the location.
