Job description

SALARY: $69,238.80 - $88,324.08 annually. Actual position classification and beginning salary based on experience.
• Staff Attorney - $5,769.90 monthly.
• Senior Staff Attorney - $6,543.32 monthly (An attorney admitted to The Florida Bar with at least two years of legal experience shall be appointed or promoted to the Senior Staff Attorney class at the minimum salary).
• Career Attorney - $7,360.34 monthly (An attorney admitted to The Florida Bar with at least five years of legal experience shall be appointed or promoted to the Career Attorney class at the minimum salary).
LOCATION: Second District Court of Appeal, St. Petersburg
*The court's interim headquarters is in downtown Tampa, pending the completion of a new courthouse in downtown St. Petersburg in November 2025.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities: The selected candidate will serve as one of the two law clerks assisting a judge in the analysis of cases and motions, and the drafting of orders and published opinions. The position requires an attorney with excellent research, writing, and editing skills who will prepare in-depth analyses on a variety of legal issues and present ideas orally and in writing to judges of the court. Time management skills and the ability to work effectively with others are crucial. All attorneys at the court must maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, and handle matters honestly and impartially
Graduation from an accredited law school with excellent academic standing; law review, journal, or significant law school writing and editing experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
The selected candidate will serve as one of two law clerks assisting a judge in analyzing cases and motions, as well as drafting orders and published opinions. This position requires an attorney with strong research, writing, and editing skills, capable of preparing in-depth analyses of a wide range of legal issues and effectively presenting ideas both orally and in writing to the court's judges. Strong time management and the ability to collaborate efficiently with others are essential. All attorneys at the court are expected to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound discretion, and handle matters with honesty and impartiality.
