The Product Development Manager will be responsible for managing the architecture program for the Division. This includes sourcing and managing external consultants and proactively coordinating with, directing, and managing internal resources as appropriate to assure quality, compliant, and efficient construction.

Your Responsibilities on the Team

  • Sources and supervises outside consultants developing new plans to ensure that architectural and structural drawings are accurately completed on schedule, and in accordance with all applicable standards governing both quality and compliance, in preparation for estimating, bidding, and permit submission.

  • Manages and directs the process for revisions to plans to include change notifications.

  • Identifies upcoming product needs as part of the Division's overall architecture program, and elevates/responds to such needs accordingly.

  • Prepares scopes of work for outside architectural and drafting consultants.

  • Conducts code research and tracking of ongoing code updates. Proactively seeks information on impending building code changes to assure compliance with the same.

  • Initiates and directs product design charrettes for developing new products.

  • Initiates communications with all internal and consultant team members about the status of architectural and structural plan development; initiates follow up efforts as appropriate and creates and maintains a master architecture schedule based on analysis and evaluation of plan development status.

  • Continuously refines architectural and structural plan details to enhance constructability, ensure conformance with all applicable building codes and municipality requirements, and minimize company's exposure warranty issues.

  • Manages value engineering meetings with internal team members and outside consultants (architects, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, subcontractors etc.) and initiates plan revisions as needed to capture the identified savings.

  • Facilitates and directs prototype plan walks and follows up with documenting and distributing changes and coordinating appropriate plan revisions.

  • Maintains a Division plan library, including architectural and structural plans, cabinet layouts, electrical layouts, and floor break diagrams.

  • Evaluates and ultimately determines the constructability of structures based on library research; makes recommendations to structural adjustments based on analysis of various applicable considerations and factors affecting the business, e.g., compliance, cost, efficiency, etc.

  • Proactively coordinates with, and provides updates to, the marketing department to assure the accuracy and completeness of current marketing materials and efforts based on status of architectural plans.

  • Supports the land acquisition and entitlements processes as needed by supplying architecture information.

Your Toolbox

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent required, college degree in Architecture, design, or equivalent experience strongly preferred.

  • Minimum three to five years' experience in residential architecture.

  • Extensive knowledge of AutoCAD strongly preferred.

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and Project.

  • Valid Driver's License and good driving record required

  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

Physical & Office/Site Presence Requirements:

Regular, in-person attendance at Company communities/job sites and offices during regular work hours is an essential function of this job. Requires the ability to work more than eight hours per day in the confined quarters of a construction trailer, the ability to operate a motor vehicle, read plans, climb stairs and ladders, bend, stoop, reach, lift, move and/or carry equipment which may be in excess of 50 pounds. Job may require occasional operation of construction equipment. Finger dexterity may be required to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
