TheDepartment of Surgery at The University of Wisconsin is recruiting an exceptionalfellowship trained ReconstructiveMicrosurgeon to join ourDivision of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
We are looking for candidates witha track recordofclinical excellence and academiccontributionsasdemonstratedthrough training and/or practice experience. The Division of Plastic Surgery has a busy microsurgery practice focusing on breast reconstruction, lower extremityreconstruction,and general reconstruction.
The successful candidate would be a key member of the team and will contribute to thethree academic missions of our division. Clinical Care, Education, and Research. Experienceand interestinthe full spectrum of breast reconstruction including microvascular breast reconstruction and/or lymphatic surgery is recommended.The successful candidate will also be involved in research as well as resident and medical student education.Potential leadership opportunities are available.

• Applicants for this position will be considered for the following titles Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, Clinical Professor, Assistant Professor (CHS), Associate Professor (CHS), Professor (CHS), Visiting Associate Professor, or Visiting Professor. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist.
• This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.
• This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations.The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.

Key Job Responsibilities:

• Clinical
• • This position will supportThe Division in its effort tomaintainand grow an existing busy microsurgical practice including breast reconstruction, lymphatic surgery, lower extremity reconstruction, and reconstruction of the abdominal wall and trunk.
  • Elective and emergency surgical practice will be based primarily at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics with a focus on adult microsurgery and general reconstructive surgery.
  • Call responsibilities for plastic surgery patients will be shared with divisional colleagues.

• Service and Teaching:
• • Time dedicated to teaching medical students, residents, and fellows will be equal to a minimum of 5%.
  • Participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health.
  • An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

• Research and Scholarly Pursuit
• • An interest inglobal surgery/global health is essential. Thesuccessful candidate will be criticalto a programwhich focuses on building sustainable surgical care through global surgeryteaching.
  • The selected finalist will be expected to contribute to the academic mission of research (e.g., basic and translational, outcomes or health services research).
  • Adjustments to dedicated percentages of time can be made based on the selected finalists' funding needs and programmatic needs.

The UW SMPH Division of Plastic Surgery includes 13 full time faculty members, 18 integrated plastic surgery residents, 2 research fellows, 7 advanced practice providers, and an administrative staff of 8. The full breadth of plastic surgery clinical care is performed in our division including general reconstruction, breast surgery, microsurgery, pediatric plastic, and craniofacial surgery, gender affirming surgery, hand and upper extremity surgery, aesthetic surgery, and migraine surgery.
The majority of the Division's clinical care occurs at University Hospital (Level One Trauma Center), American Family Children's Hospital, and the Veterans Administration Hospital, with additional services at East Madison Hospital, Meriter Hospital, and Madison Surgery Center. Faculty participate in robust clinical, basic science, and translational research, and are committed to the education of medical students and residents. Care of adult patients who have sustained craniofacial trauma will be part of the required clinical responsibilities. Additionally, the Division has developed and led a successful and sustainable global surgery program and participation is encouraged.
The University of Wisconsin Department of Surgery is one of the leading surgical programs in the nation, excelling in patient care, surgical education, and surgical research. We are composed of more than 130 full-time faculty across 10 divisions and nearly 200 additional staff who support our mission. Our surgeons perform almost 20,000 operations per year for pediatric and adult patients. Training the next generation of surgeons and clinician-scientists is integral in our department, with more than 100 residents and fellows trained each year. The department is consistently among the top surgery programs with extramural research funding, ranking seventh nationally in NIH funding over the last 10 years.

Compensation:

Required Qualifications:

• Wisconsin Medical License by appointment start date.
• Board certification or Board Eligible in Surgery by the American Board of Surgery or American Osteopathic Board of Surgery or equivalent by the appointment start date
• Completion of Plastic and Reconstructive Residency training and fellowship training in Microvascular Surgery is required by the start date
• Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges, by appointment start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

• For an appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on CHS Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CHS Track.
• For an appointment at Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Professor rank on CT Track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CT Track.

Education:

• MD or DO, or equivalent required
