ABOUT THE ROLE
The Energy Development Analyst supports the evaluation, acquisition, and advancement of utility-scale power generation, energy storage, and grid-connected infrastructure projects across the U.S. This analyst-level role is suited for a development professional with 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in energy policy, energy transition, plant design, interconnection, transmission, RTO/ISO markets, and project development. The position supports market analysis, policy and market monitoring, site screening, interconnection review, permitting, engineering coordination, commercial diligence, financial modeling, and construction readiness.
The position is based in Ferrovial's U.S. office in Austin, Texas and reports to the Director of Business Development. The role works closely with development, engineering, construction, interconnection, transmission, finance, commercial, legal, M&A, environmental, permitting, and asset management teams. The Analyst will evaluate market opportunities, maintain project and interconnection tools, support technical and commercial analysis, coordinate workstreams, and prepare materials for project reviews, investment decisions, stakeholder discussions, and executive reporting.
Travel as needed for project sites, stakeholder meetings, industry events, consultant coordination, and partner discussions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct market, policy, regulatory, sustainability, and commercial analysis to inform project development and investment decisions.
Support utility-scale renewable energy, storage, hybrid, and grid-connected infrastructure projects from screening through construction readiness.
Support interconnection and transmission activities, including queue tracking, application preparation, study review, network upgrade analysis, milestone tracking, and coordination with utilities, ISOs, RTOs, and transmission providers.
Analyze RTO/ISO market rules, interconnection requirements, transmission planning, congestion, curtailment, capacity value, ancillary services, market reforms, and regional development risks.
Coordinate with engineering and construction teams on site layouts, plant design assumptions, generation profiles, equipment selection, constructability, schedules, cost estimates, and pre-construction requirements.
Support origination, market screening, site evaluation, permitting strategy, environmental review, stakeholder engagement, local government coordination, and development milestone management.
Maintain project schedules, dashboards, interconnection trackers, market summaries, consultant scopes, risk registers, budgets, and internal updates.
Support acquisitions, co-development opportunities, and M&A diligence by assessing development status, interconnection position, permitting risk, engineering assumptions, construction readiness, market fundamentals, schedule, budget, and key commercial inputs.
Coordinate RFPs, consultant deliverables, technical reports, land and environmental studies, engineering work products, interconnection materials, and market research.
Support financial feasibility analysis by providing assumptions for development costs, interconnection costs, schedules, permitting, production, storage configuration, tax incentives, market participation, and commercial risks.
Prepare written updates and presentation materials for management, investment reviews, project approvals, partner discussions, stakeholder meetings, and executive reporting.
Help coordinate relationships with consultants, engineers, landowners, local officials, community stakeholders, utilities, RTOs/ISOs, transmission providers, developers, EPC contractors, equipment suppliers, and other stakeholders.
Track technology, policy, market, interconnection, transmission, sustainability, and industry trends affecting renewable energy, storage, hybrid, and broader energy infrastructure projects.
Promote safety, integrity, accountability, collaboration, analytical rigor, and commercial discipline across project activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with M&A advisory or strategy consulting firms is highly desirable.
Degree in engineering, energy systems, environmental science, sustainability, economics, public policy, business, finance, planning, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
3 to 5 years of relevant experience in renewable energy, energy storage, sustainability, energy policy, power markets, utility-scale development, interconnection, transmission, consulting, IPP, utility, EPC, or project acquisitions.
Experience supporting development, evaluation, or analysis of renewable energy, storage, hybrid, generation, transmission-related, or other grid-connected projects.
Working knowledge of U.S. energy policy, energy transition trends, sustainability frameworks, decarbonization drivers, corporate clean energy procurement, and relevant regulatory developments.
Familiarity with U.S. RTO/ISO or utility markets, including ERCOT, SPP, MISO, PJM, CAISO, WECC, NYISO, ISO-NE, or other regional markets.
Understanding of interconnection and transmission processes, including queue management, study phases, agreements, transmission service, network upgrades, milestone requirements, and commercial risks.
Familiarity with plant design, site layouts, constructability, generation technologies, battery energy storage systems, hybrid configurations, and project development lifecycles.
Ability to analyze technical, policy, regulatory, market, and commercial information and translate findings into clear recommendations.
Strong Excel, PowerPoint, data analysis, research, and presentation skills, including the ability to build trackers, summarize complex information, and prepare polished materials.
Experience working with engineering, construction, interconnection, transmission, environmental, permitting, finance, commercial, legal, and consultant teams preferred.
Experience supporting acquisitions, co-development, commercial diligence, project modeling inputs, market analysis, or investment approval materials preferred.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams, external parties, commercial partners, and senior management.
