We are seeking Yoruba Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Yoruba, a major West African language spoken in Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and diaspora communities worldwide, is a priority language for asylum, refugee, and immigration-related cases.
Responsibilities
  • Provide real-time Yoruba ↔ English telephonic interpretation for USCIS interviews, hearings, and immigration proceedings.
  • Ensure interpretations are accurate, impartial, and culturally appropriate.
  • Maintain confidentiality in compliance with USCIS/DHS interpreter standards.
  • Support both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge requests.
  • Participate in compliance training, quality audits, and professional development.
Qualifications
  • Native or near-native fluency in Yoruba and English.
  • 2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, legal, medical, NGO, or community preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and neutrality.
  • Excellent telephone communication skills with ability to remain accurate under pressure.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 federal clearance.
