Description

SAIC is seeking a mechanical engineer to serve as an In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) in support of hypersonic weapons systems deployed aboard the Zumwalt-class DDG-1000 destroyer and Virginia-class submarines. This position plays a critical role in ensuring operational readiness, technical integrity, and lifecycle sustainment of cutting-edge hypersonic strike capabilities.

As an ISEA, you will serve as a key technical authority bridging the gap between the engineering baseline and fleet operations. You will work collaboratively with Fleet Support Representatives, government program offices, and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure delivered systems align with system and subsystem requirements throughout their operational lifecycle.

NOTE: This position is 100% remote/work from home.

What You'll Do:

  • Serve as a primary In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) for hypersonic weapons systems, providing mechanical engineering expertise across the full sustainment lifecycle
  • Review, develop, and maintain technical manuals to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with current system configurations
  • Develop and process Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), ensuring proposed changes are technically sound, properly documented, and traceable to system/subsystem requirements
  • Perform configuration management activities, maintaining the integrity of the engineering baseline and ensuring delivered hardware and software configurations are accurately tracked and documented
  • Author and update redline drawings, incorporating approved engineering changes and ensuring as-built configurations are accurately reflected
  • Develop and review Independent Logistics Assessment (ILA) documents to support fleet readiness and sustainment planning
  • Write clear and concise risk statements, identifying technical risks and recommending mitigation strategies to program leadership and government customers
  • Participate in and support Change Control Boards (CCBs), presenting engineering changes, responding to technical inquiries, and ensuring proper disposition of action items
  • Collaborate closely with Fleet Support Representatives to address fleet-identified issues, document discrepancies, and drive timely engineering resolutions
  • Ensure alignment between delivered systems and applicable system/subsystem specifications, identifying and resolving gaps or non-conformances
  • Support technical reviews, audits, and program milestones as required by the government customer
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, logistics personnel, and government stakeholders to support overall program objectives

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • 7+ years of relevant mechanical engineering or engineering related experience
  • Experience with technical manual development and review in a DoD or naval environment
  • Demonstrated experience developing Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and supporting configuration management processes
  • Familiarity with naval weapons systems, shipboard mechanical systems, or related defense platforms
  • Experience participating in or supporting Change Control Boards (CCBs)
  • Proficiency in redline drawing development and engineering drawing interpretation
  • Strong technical writing skills with experience authoring risk statements, engineering assessments, and logistics documents
  • Ability to work effectively with Fleet Support Representatives and government customers
  • Interim secret clearance required to start with the ability to obtain a secret clearance. SAIC will sponsor the clearance process.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting NSWC Crane or other Navy offices
  • Demonstrated experience in an ISEA, sustainment, or lifecycle engineering role
  • Familiarity with hypersonic weapons systems, strike weapons, or advanced naval weapons programs
  • Experience with DDG-1000 Zumwalt-class or Virginia-class submarine platforms
  • Knowledge of MIL-SPEC standards, NAVSEA technical documentation requirements, and DoD configuration management policies (e.g., EIA-649, MIL-HDBK-61)
  • Experience developing or reviewing Independent Logistics Assessment (ILA) documents
  • Experience with Navy Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) development
  • Familiarity with NAVAIR/NAVSEA acquisition and sustainment processes
  • Experience with PTC Windchill, Navy Model Based Product Support (MBPS), or other PLM/configuration management tools

Target salary range: $120,001 - $160,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
