A remote year-round camp is a camp program that operates throughout the entire year (not just during summer or specific seasons) and is accessible remotely, meaning campers and staff participate virtually from anywhere with an internet connection. These camps offer a variety of activities, workshops, and social experiences online, allowing participants to learn new skills, make friends, and engage in camp traditions without needing to travel. They are designed to accommodate different schedules and often include interactive sessions, group projects, and digital events to foster a sense of community.

What are some unique challenges of working in a remote year-round camp setting, and how can I prepare for them?

Staff members typically need to be flexible and proactive, as roles can be multifaceted—ranging from program facilitation to maintenance or administrative support. Effective communication and collaboration are essential since you'll be working closely with colleagues and campers for extended periods. To prepare, familiarize yourself with remote living, practice strong self-management, and be ready to embrace a community-focused lifestyle.
