Position Overview

River Valley Counseling Services is actively seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Licensed Mental Health Counselor. This full-time position offers the flexibility of remote work while allowing you to make a positive impact on the mental well-being of our clients. In this role, you will assess clients' mental health needs and collaboratively develop tailored therapeutic interventions to address a range of mental health challenges.

About the Organization

Located in Arlington, Virginia, River Valley Counseling Services is a community health clinic committed to providing accessible mental health care to individuals from diverse backgrounds. Our mission is to promote mental wellness and resilience while ensuring that every client feels understood, respected, and empowered. We foster a supportive and collaborative atmosphere for both clients and professionals, striving to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health through education and advocacy.

Work Environment

This position is set within a remote work environment, allowing you to manage your own workspace while maintaining a strong connection with both clients and colleagues through virtual platforms. Our organization values flexibility, providing you with the necessary tools and technology to deliver effective mental health services from the comfort of your home. Regular team meetings and virtual supervision sessions ensure that you remain connected to our multidisciplinary team, which includes psychiatrists, social workers, and wellness coaches.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough assessments of clients during initial sessions to determine their mental health status and therapy needs.
  • Design and implement individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based practices and the unique circumstances of each client.
  • Facilitate regular therapy sessions—both individual and group modalities—to promote coping strategies and mental health improvement.
  • Utilize various therapeutic models, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based approaches, to assist clients in overcoming challenges.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential electronic health records (EHR) documenting clinical progress and treatment updates.
  • Provide referrals to additional healthcare providers, including psychiatrists, for medication management or more intensive treatment as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities and team training sessions to stay current with best practices in mental health counseling.
Patient Population / Client Focus

As a member of our team, you will work closely with a diverse client population facing a myriad of mental health issues such as substance abuse, anxiety, depression, and eating disorders. Our commitment to cultural competence means you will have the opportunity to engage with clients from various cultural backgrounds, ensuring that all therapeutic approaches are respectful and tailored to their unique experiences.

Qualifications
  • A Master’s or Doctoral degree in social work, marriage and family therapy, mental health counseling, or psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Current and valid licensure as an LMFT, LPC, or LCSW in the state of Virginia.
  • Minimum of four years of related experience in the mental health field, demonstrating progressive responsibility.
  • Comprehensive understanding of mental health disorders and the ability to utilize evidence-based treatments effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide individual and group therapy that is culturally sensitive and inclusive.
  • Strong skills in crisis intervention with a proven track record of maintaining composure in high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a knack for building rapport with clients swiftly.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record management systems and standard office software.
  • Commitment to upholding ethical standards and confidentiality in all aspects of practice.
  • Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive client care.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience working in community mental health settings or telehealth environments is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with culturally responsive therapeutic techniques and a track record of working with underserved populations.
  • Advanced training in specific therapeutic modalities or specialties is a plus.
Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary for this role ranges from $70,000 to $100,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • Health insurance coverage with various plans available to meet individual and family needs.
  • A robust retirement savings plan with employer-matching contributions to support your long-term financial goals.
  • Generous paid time off (PTO) policy and holiday pay to ensure work-life balance.
  • Access to continuing education opportunities and financial support for professional development.
  • A clear path for career advancement and leadership roles within our practice.
  • A collaborative and inclusive work environment where your contributions are valued.
Career Growth Opportunities

At River Valley Counseling Services, we prioritize the professional development of our staff. You will have opportunities to expand your clinical skills through ongoing training, engage in peer supervision, and take on leadership roles as our organization evolves.
