Job Description Summary

Miami Recreation Services coordinates the hiring of club sport coaches. Coaches must understand that club sports are directed by the students, therefore, coaches must acknowledge and respect the leadership positions of the officers. The coach may act only in those areas as authorized by the club in writing.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Club Sports, this position requires excellent communication and teamwork skills while working with student-athletes, university administrators, and external groups. Coaches will work closely with administration, officers and team members to assist with all operations of a competitive, traveling sports team. This may include recruitment, scheduling, competition strategy, conditioning, practice planning, reporting, and fundraising.

Job Description

Essential Duties:

  • Develop the fundamental sport skills and techniques in a safe and progressive manner that is within the scope of the abilities and expertise of the club members.
  • Provide instruction and coaching for practices and competitions.
  • Promote fair play and good sportsmanship at all times. The coach must conduct himself/herself in a professional manner that will reflect positively upon the club and Miami University.
  • Assure compliance of all applicable rules and regulations of Miami University and of any conference, league, or association to which the club may belong.
  • Report, in writing, to the Club Sports Office or appropriate university office any observed breaches of law or university policy including alcohol consumption or hazing activities of club members.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proven ability to build and nurture networks of internal and external relationships.
  • Familiar with trends in sport and athlete development techniques
  • Leadership and conflict management within the the sport community
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively with students

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Sport specific experience as coach or athlete at any level
  • CPR & First Aid Certification within 30 days of hire
  • Blood Borne Pathogens training within 30 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three years of sport specific coaching experience at high school or college level
  • Sport-specific coaching certification or training
