What is a remote volunteer football scout?

A remote volunteer football scout is someone who evaluates football players and teams from a distance, often using video analysis, statistical data, and online research rather than attending games in person. These scouts typically volunteer their time to help clubs, organizations, or scouting networks identify promising talent. Tasks may include writing reports on player performance, tracking player progress, and assisting with recruitment recommendations. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about football who want to gain experience in scouting without needing to travel or relocate. It also provides valuable networking opportunities within the football industry.

What is the difference between Remote Volunteer Football Scouting vs Remote Football Data Analyst?

AspectRemote Volunteer Football Scouting
Required Credentials
Basic knowledge of football, scouting experience preferred
Work Environment
Remote, flexible hours, volunteer basis
Employer & Industry Usage
Sports teams, youth leagues, amateur clubs

Remote Volunteer Football Scouting involves evaluating player talent remotely, often based on game footage or reports, with minimal formal credentials. In contrast, Remote Football Data Analysts analyze game data and statistics, typically requiring data analysis skills and sometimes certifications. Both roles are remote and industry-specific, but scouting focuses on player evaluation, while data analysis emphasizes statistical insights.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Volunteer Football Scout, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Volunteer Football Scout, you need a solid understanding of football tactics, player evaluation, and game analysis, often supported by prior playing or coaching experience. Familiarity with video analysis tools, scouting platforms, and basic data entry software is typically required. Strong observational skills, attention to detail, and effective written communication help scouts convey insights clearly and collaborate remotely. These skills are crucial for identifying talent accurately and providing valuable reports to coaching staff or recruitment teams from a distance.

How does a remote volunteer football scout effectively collaborate with club coaches and other scouts while working from a distance?

Remote volunteer football scouts typically use digital communication tools—such as video calls, messaging apps, and shared databases—to keep in close contact with club coaches and fellow scouts. Regular virtual meetings are common to discuss player evaluations, share match footage, and update scouting reports. Building strong relationships and maintaining frequent, clear communication are key to overcoming the challenges of not being onsite. Scouts are also expected to submit detailed assessments and may participate in group discussions or presentations to ensure their observations contribute meaningfully to the club’s recruitment strategy.

Job description

At Hudl, we build great teams. We hire the best of the best to ensure you're working with people you can constantly learn from. You're trusted to get your work done your way while testing the limits of what's possible and what's next. We work hard to provide a culture where everyone feels supported, and our employees feel it-their votes helped us become one of Newsweek's Top 100 Global Most Loved Workplaces.
We think of ourselves as the team behind the team, supporting the lifelong impact sports can have: the lessons in teamwork and dedication; the influence of inspiring coaches; and the opportunities to reach new heights. That's why we help teams from all over the world see their game differently. Our products make it easier for coaches and athletes at any level to capture video, analyze data, share highlights and more.
Ready to join us?
Your Role
We're looking for an Account Executive to join our Sales team. We have an established presence in the North American region with a number of top-level companies, consultancies, analytics firms, media companies, and brands. This role will spearhead our commercial growth focused on the licensing business in this region.
Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Relationship management. You'll establish and maintain connections to key clients in the B2B area as you sell Hudl's extensive sports performance data (i.e., statistics, video analytics and player tracking insights).
  • Helping customers do their jobs better. By identifying new revenue opportunities, you'll help customers leverage our data for scouting, performance analysis, predictive modeling and content enhancement. You'll also ensure seamless data integration for clients via APIs, dashboards and reports.
  • Collaboration. You'll partner with a Customer Success Manager who will act as a trusted advisor to your customers, and you'll work with our product and analytics teams to deliver customized data products.

For this role, we're currently prioritizing applicants who live within commuting distance of our offices in Lincoln or Omaha, Nebraska, but we're open to remote applicants who live in the following states: AL, AZ, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, MA, MI, MN, MO, NE, NH, NC, NV, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WI, WY.
Must-Haves
  • Experienced. You've spent time (5+ years) working within SaaS sales and building complex deals. Your business acumen is applicable across all verticals.
  • Consultative. You take the time to establish relationships, understand your client's goals, and then look to sell solutions that suit them.
  • Methodical. You have a background working with a CRM like Salesforce, and have a disciplined approach to approaching and engaging partners.
  • Curiosity. You're continuously learning and appreciate challenging situations for their ability to help you grow.
  • Self-motivated. You excel with lofty goals and will bet on your own abilities.
  • Connected. You've handled numerous projects in this niche, data-focused market and come with a robust network.
Nice-to-Haves
  • Global football background. You stay up-to-date with the trends and happenings across the sport and have an understanding of the relevant statistics and economics.
  • Passionate about sports and technology. You can't wait to bring the world's best sports software to global football teams.
  • Bilingual. You speak English at a (near) native level and are fluent in at least another language applicable to the North American region (French or Spanish).
  • Portfolio management. You receive a portfolio of customers - analyse where the opportunities may lie - execute against it.
  • Teamwork makes the dreamwork! You're experienced in working firstly as a team member but also with a Customer Success Manager to work together and drive success across your clients.
Our Role
  • Champion work-life harmony. We'll give you the flexibility you need in your work life (e.g., flexible vacation time, company-wide holidays and timeout (meeting-free) days, remote work options and more) so you can enjoy your personal life too.
  • Guarantee autonomy. We have an open, honest culture and we trust our people from day one. Your team will support you, but you'll own your work and have the agency to try new ideas.
  • Encourage career growth. We're lifelong learners who encourage professional development. We'll give you tons of resources and opportunities to keep growing.
  • Provide an environment to help you succeed. We've invested in our offices, designing incredible spaces with our employees in mind. But whether you're at the office or working remotely, we'll provide you the tech stack and hardware to do your best work.
  • Support your mental and physical health. We care about our employees' wellbeing. Our Employee Assistance Program, employee resource groups and fitness partner Peerfit have you covered.
  • Cover your medical insurance. We have multiple plans to pick from to ensure you'll have the coverage you (and your dependents) want, including vision, dental, fertility healthcare and family forming benefits.
  • Contribute to your 401(K). Yep, that's free money. We'll match up to 4% of your own contribution.
Compensation
The base salary range and on-target earnings (OTE) for this role are displayed below. Typically, the total compensation will fall within the middle of the OTE band.
Our compensation decisions are based on an individual's experience, skills and education in line with our internal pay equity practices.

Inclusion at Hudl
Hudl is an equal opportunity employer. Through our actions, behaviors and attitude, we'll create an environment where everyone, no matter their differences, feels like they belong.
We offer resources to ensure our employees feel safe bringing their authentic selves to work, including employee resource groups and communities. But we recognize there's ongoing work to be done, which is why we track our efforts and commitments in annual inclusion reports.
We also know imposter syndrome is real and the confidence gap can get in the way of meeting spectacular candidates. Please don't hesitate to apply-we'd love to hear from you.
