What is remote voice writing court reporting?

Remote voice writing court reporting is a method of creating official transcripts of legal proceedings by speaking into a voice silencer or mask while listening to the proceedings remotely, often via video or audio feeds. The voice writer repeats everything spoken during a deposition, trial, or hearing, including gestures and actions, which is then converted into text using specialized speech recognition software. This process allows for accurate and real-time transcripts without being physically present in the courtroom. Remote voice writers need strong listening, speaking, and multitasking skills, as well as training in legal terminology and technology. The role is essential for maintaining accurate records in legal and official settings, especially as remote and virtual proceedings become more common.

How to become a court reporter remotely?

To become a remote court reporter, you typically need to complete a court reporting program or certification, gain stenography or voice writing skills, and obtain state licensure or certification. Many remote court reporters use specialized transcription software and work from home setups, often requiring strong listening, typing, and time management skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Voice Writing Court Reporter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Voice Writing Court Reporter, you need excellent listening skills, a strong command of English, and training in court reporting, often demonstrated by completion of a voice writing program and relevant certification (e.g., NVRA Certified Verbatim Reporter). Familiarity with voice writing software, real-time transcription tools, and secure remote communication platforms is essential. Superior concentration, attention to detail, and the ability to remain composed under pressure are standout soft skills in this field. These skills and qualities are crucial to ensure accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of legal proceedings in a remote environment.

How do I become a proofreader for a court reporter?

To become a proofreader for a court reporter, you should have strong attention to detail, excellent grammar skills, and familiarity with court reporting terminology. Many proofreaders have a background in stenography, transcription, or related fields, and some positions require certification or experience with transcription software. Developing accuracy and speed in reviewing transcripts is essential for this role.

Can a court reporter work remotely?

Remote voice writing court reporting is possible and increasingly common, with many court reporters using specialized transcription software and audio equipment to work from home. However, it requires certification, reliable technology, and adherence to court reporting standards, including maintaining confidentiality and accuracy. Some jurisdictions or employers may have specific policies or requirements for remote work arrangements.

Where do stenographers make the most money?

Stenographers, including court reporters, tend to earn higher salaries in regions with larger legal and governmental sectors, such as major metropolitan areas. Factors like experience, certification, and proficiency with stenotype machines also influence earning potential, with specialized skills often commanding higher pay. Remote work opportunities can vary in pay based on client demand and regional rates, but location remains a key factor in salary levels.

What are some common challenges faced by remote voice writing court reporters, and how can they be addressed?

Remote voice writing court reporters often encounter challenges such as maintaining clear audio quality, managing technical issues with recording software, and ensuring confidentiality of sensitive information. Working from home requires a quiet, distraction-free environment and reliable internet connectivity. To address these challenges, professionals should invest in high-quality headsets and microphones, routinely test their equipment, and follow secure data handling protocols. Regular training and staying updated with the latest voice recognition technologies can also help improve accuracy and efficiency.

Key responsibilities

  • Write social copy, captions, scripts, newsletters, promotional copy, and other written assets for Leila Hormozi's brand.

  • Collaborate with Social and Creative Producers to ensure written content aligns with visual packaging and platform strategy.

  • Maintain brand voice documentation and living voice guides to ensure consistency across all contributors.

Job description

About ACQ Media
ACQ Media is the in-house media engine behind Acquisition.com, producing content for Alex Hormozi, Leila Hormozi, and Sharran Srivatsaa. Our mission: build the leading business media organization in the world by 2030. We operate like a studio - structured workflows, batch production, clear performance metrics, and an AI-native production model. High output. High quality. No vanity content.
The Role
This role is primarily responsible for written content across Leila Hormozi's brand. The Writer is the voice behind our written content - captions, scripts, newsletters, promotional copy, and every written asset tied to content performance. This role writes in distinct brand voices and does not default to generic or AI-generated output. If you outsource your writing to AI, this isn't the role for you.
You'll work closely with the Social and Creative Producers to ensure written output aligns with visual packaging and platform strategy. You'll also own brand voice documentation, maintain living voice guides, and keep standards consistent across internal and external contributors.
Reports to the Creative Producer. Fully remote.
What You'll Own
Social copy and captions across Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, X, YouTube, and Threads - platform-native, with strong hooks and clear CTAs
Scripts and long-form written assets for YouTube episodes, short-form video, and branded content
Promotional and campaign copy - episode launches, newsletters, ad creative, PR quotes
Brand voice guides and a living library of signature phrases, standards, and do/don't examples
AI integration - prompt libraries, draft acceleration, variation testing - without letting AI dilute voice quality
What We're Looking For
5+ years in copywriting, content writing, or brand writing for digital media or personal brands
Demonstrated ability to write convincingly in multiple distinct voices
Strong grasp of what copy performs on each platform and why
Experience writing at volume across scripts, captions, newsletters, and long-form content
Proficiency with AI writing tools and a clear framework for where they help vs. where they hurt
Comfortable in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with multiple concurrent projects
What Success Looks Like
Every assigned brand has consistent, on-voice written output across all active platforms
Hook and caption quality improves measurably in engagement and CTR data
Scripts and long-form assets are delivered on time, no bottlenecks
The Creative Producer spends less time editing and more time on strategy
AI is embedded in the workflow - output speed is up, voice quality is not down
Location
Remote, USA. Light travel may be required.
