Project Introduction
9th Way Insignia is looking for a Systems Administrator to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Infrastructure and Platforms Support Services contract. This position provides system administration, maintenance, backup, disaster recovery, and operational support for a large, geographically distributed enterprise environment consisting of virtualized infrastructure, storage platforms, Windows and Linux servers, VMware hosts, enterprise backup systems, and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager infrastructure. The Systems Administrator will help maintain the availability, security, performance, and recoverability of systems supporting more than 35,000 users across VA locations while responding to incidents, implementing approved hardware and software changes, and maintaining accurate technical documentation.
Professional Level
The Systems Administrator position aligns as a Level 3 Senior Consultant at 9th Way Insignia. A Senior Consultant completes tasks and projects of moderate scope and complexity and exercises sound judgment and problem-solving skills within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate courses of action. The Senior Consultant is expected to perform assigned work with limited supervision, independently investigate and resolve technical issues, communicate effectively with team members and customers, and consistently produce accurate, timely, and high-quality results.
Responsibilities
In this role, the Systems Administrator will provide on-site and remote administration and maintenance support for VA storage, server, backup, disaster recovery, and systems-management environments. The administrator will install, upgrade, repair, configure, and retire hardware and software; troubleshoot system and storage configurations; apply approved application and security patches; manage system access; monitor logs and resource utilization; and perform performance tuning and capacity-planning activities. The position will create, execute, and monitor backups and data restorations; investigate replication and checkpoint issues; provision storage to VMware, Windows, and Linux hosts; support monthly coordinated installations; and assist with inventory management for hardware and software resources. The Systems Administrator will also support SCCM test environments by testing operating-system deployments, application packages, upgrades, and Microsoft patches; respond to help-desk tickets; provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 troubleshooting assistance; support disaster-recovery and security activities; remediate identified vulnerabilities; and create and maintain operating instructions, standard operating procedures, user guides, installation instructions, and monthly status documentation.
Requirements
• Relevant experience administering enterprise Windows Server, Linux, VMware, storage, backup, or systems-management environments
• Experience installing, configuring, upgrading, troubleshooting, and maintaining server hardware and software
• Experience monitoring system logs, processor utilization, memory, storage capacity, system performance, and availability
• Experience applying operating-system, application, and security patches in a controlled enterprise environment
• Experience administering backup and restoration processes and supporting disaster-recovery or business-continuity activities
• Experience supporting virtualized server environments and provisioning storage to Windows, Linux, or VMware hosts
• Familiarity with enterprise storage, backup, or hyperconverged technologies such as NetApp, Dell/EMC, Cohesity, Cisco HyperFlex, or Commvault
• Experience supporting Microsoft SCCM or a comparable enterprise systems-management and software-deployment platform
• Experience responding to service requests and incidents through an enterprise ticketing platform such as ServiceNow
• Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and document resolutions
• Ability to create and maintain technical documentation, including standard operating procedures, operating instructions, installation instructions, and user guides
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with VA personnel, remote support teams, vendors, and other technical stakeholders
• Availability to support alternate shifts, scheduled weekend maintenance, and occasional after-hours emergency support when mission requirements dictate
• Ability to obtain and maintain a VA Public Trust background investigation at the Tier 2, Moderate Risk level

Salary Range
