What is a remote visual storyteller?

A Remote Visual Storyteller is a creative professional who crafts compelling narratives using visual media such as photography, video, graphics, or animation, all while working from a location outside of a traditional office setting. They collaborate with clients or teams virtually to conceptualize, design, and deliver visual content that effectively communicates a brand’s message or tells a story. Their work often involves digital tools and platforms to develop and share their projects. This role requires strong visual communication skills, creativity, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote visual storyteller?

To thrive as a Remote Visual Storyteller, you need a strong background in photography, videography, and visual editing, often with a degree or portfolio demonstrating creative storytelling abilities. Mastery of digital editing tools like Adobe Creative Suite, as well as familiarity with remote collaboration platforms, is typically required. Outstanding communication, creative thinking, and the ability to work independently are vital soft skills for excelling in this role. These skills ensure compelling visual narratives are delivered efficiently and collaboratively, even when working from a distance.

How does a remote visual storyteller effectively collaborate with creative teams across different time zones?

As a Remote Visual Storyteller, effective collaboration often involves leveraging digital tools such as project management platforms, cloud-based design suites, and regular video meetings to stay aligned with creative teams. Clear communication, setting expectations, and maintaining organized project files are crucial for ensuring everyone is on the same page despite time zone differences. Many organizations schedule overlapping work hours or asynchronous feedback loops to accommodate team members in various locations. Building strong relationships through consistent updates and proactive sharing of visual drafts helps foster a cohesive creative process.

We are currently seeking a Principal Visual & Emerging Designer (grade 12) to join our team in Remote, Texas (US-TX), United States (US).

Who we are:

NTT DATA strives to hire exceptional, innovative, and passionate
individuals who want to grow with us. Launch by NTT DATA is the
culmination of the company’s strategy to acquire and integrate theskills, experience, and technology of leading digital companies, backed
by NTT DATA’s core capabilities, global reach, and depth.

How you’ll help us:

As an Experience Designer, you’ll become part of our growing design practice, helping Launch by NTT DATA create best-in-class digital customer, employee, and user experiences. You’ll support initiatives, large and small, to define cross-channel experience strategies and user experience designs that embrace the intersection of people, process,
business, and technology. Our employee culture is built on learning, growth, transparency, and empathy. We hope you’ll join us to help shape it more.

How we’ll help you:

You’ll lead visual direction on the work our clients see and care about most, working closely with the Principal Designers and Directors shaping our AI-native design standards right now. Principal is a real stretch from here, not a guaranteed next step, but our design career map lays out exactly what it takes, so you’ll always know what you’re working toward and how close you are.

Once you are here, you will:

  • Bring big-picture strategic thinking to how an engagement is framed, then deliver the premium visual work that brings it to life
  • Own hands-on delivery of premium visual design work on priority client engagements, setting and defending the visual quality bar for the project
  • Lead visual direction and critique across designers and disciplines on your engagements, raising the bar on craft for everyone around you
  • Use storytelling, prototypes, and direction-setting to help sell ideas, build excitement, and secure buy-in during client conversations and pursuits
  • Partner closely with product managers, strategy leads, and engineering to translate visual decisions into usable, feasible, on-brand solutions
  • Bring AI and emerging design tools into discovery, ideation, and production work with sound judgment on quality, accuracy, and accessibility, and share what’s working with the broader team
  • Coach designers on craft, presentation, and storytelling through critique and day-to-day collaboration

Preferred qualifications

Strong portfolio and experience including:

  • Art direction and creative concepting
  • Creating and implementing design systems
  • Compelling visual design across any screen size or form factor
  • Realistic and interactive prototypes
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal/written) to present complex technical concepts to non-technical individuals, using persuasion and tact in orchestrating design objectives and direction
  • Experience translating visual and craft decisions into a clear business rationale that clients and stakeholders can act on
  • Technical feasibility understanding and ability to communicate successfully with engineering
  • Experience with inclusive and accessible design practices
  • Independently drive the design review cycle and align on design requirements/decisions with stakeholders
  • Comfort operating across the full arc of a project, from framing the problem through shipping the polished execution
  • Ability to multi-task and stay deadline-oriented with the ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks within allotted timeframes
  • Growing fluency with AI-assisted design and prototyping tools, with sound judgment evaluating AI-generated output and curiosity to adopt them responsibly into everyday workflows
  • Experience creating detailed, structured design specifications that hand off cleanly to engineering, especially valuable if you’ve worked with distributed or offshore development teams

Basic qualifications

  • 10+ years of work experience as a visual designer, product designer, or equivalent role
  • 10+ years familiarity with common design and collaboration tools such as Figma, Sketch, Miro, etc.
  • Bachelor’s and/or graduate degree in a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • 10+ years with Portfolio demonstrating examples of work product and process, and evidence of both strategic thinking and hands-on execution
  • 10+ years demonstrated experience leading visual direction on individual client engagements

Ideal mindset

T-shaped: You move fluidly across strategy, execution, and storytelling, going deep on craft while staying connected to why it matters

Human-centered: You prioritize human-centered design philosophy and best practices in all your design activities

A practical creative: You enjoy solving complex problems creatively but are practical in your solutions, realizing the many constraints that may impede the “ideal”

Flexible work style: You work equally well in a collaborative, team-based environment as you do independently

Collaborator: You work harmoniously with others, exemplify unity in purpose, and avoid competitive or combative attitudes

Independent: You have all the skills necessary to solve any problem, accomplish any activity, and run any type of project without oversight

Initiative taker: You go the extra mile, lend help when you can, and show up for your teammates

Mentor: You share your knowledge, help up-skill your coworkers, and foster an inclusive and learning-focused culture on the design team

Storyteller: You use visuals and prototypes to build client trust and guide decision-making
