Location: Remote - This position may be performed remotely in states where the company is authorized to employ individuals.

Compensation: The expected starting base pay range for this position is $200,000. - $250,000. with full potential base salary range over a successful candidate’s tenure in the position of $200,000. - $300,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, internal equity, and other job-related factors.

This position may also be eligible for bonus or other incentive compensation in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan of up to a 35% Bonus Target. 

Employment Logistics: 

The Vice President of Linehaul and Fleet Operations is accountable for transportation strategy, network performance, carrier procurement, fleet operations, transportation technology, and financial results across a transportation spend exceeding $500M annually. This role directs enterprise transportation planning and execution to deliver safe, reliable, scalable, and cost-effective network performance while supporting company growth objectives. The VP partners closely with executive leadership to establish strategic priorities, manage significant operating and capital investments, and drive enterprise-wide operational excellence across transportation network performance, fleet reliability, carrier partnerships, regulatory compliance, workforce effectiveness, and key business outcomes.

The Must-Haves: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 15+ years of relevant experience, including significant leadership experience managing large-scale transportation, fleet, logistics, or operations organizations and leading leaders
  • Expert knowledge of transportation operations, linehaul networks, fleet management, maintenance operations, carrier relations, logistics, and supply chain management
  • Deep understanding of transportation economics, network modeling, operational strategy, and large-scale asset management
  • Comprehensive knowledge of transportation safety standards, regulatory compliance, risk management, and governance requirements
  • Expert knowledge of domestic truckload, LTL, dedicated fleet, intermodal, rail, drayage, and final-mile transportation markets
  • Proven experience leading transportation organizations supporting national parcel, express, e-commerce, retail distribution, or large-scale logistics networks with annual transportation spend exceeding $250M
  • Experience in rate negotiations and competitive RFPs
  • Up to 25% Travel

Your Mission in Motion: 

A summary of key responsibilities for the role is outlined below. Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support business objectives.

  • Enterprise transportation strategy & network performance: Develop and execute transportation strategies that optimize service, safety, cost, capacity, and network performance while supporting company growth objectives.
  • Leadership oversight & organizational execution: Provide leadership and oversight for Directors of Transportation and Hub-to-Hub Operations, as well as Carrier Management and Fleet Maintenance organizations.
  • Network design, capacity & service planning: Establish long-range transportation network strategies, including capacity planning, route optimization, asset deployment, hub utilization, and service design.
  • Fleet, carrier & intermodal strategy: Direct company-owned fleet and third-party carrier strategies to ensure capacity, service performance, and cost effectiveness, while integrating intermodal usage including rail, rail-to-OTR combinations, and drayage.
  • Fleet maintenance, safety & compliance: Lead enterprise fleet maintenance programs focused on vehicle reliability, asset lifecycle management, safety, compliance, and total cost of ownership; lead safety initiatives and ensure compliance with DOT and all applicable transportation regulations.
  • Operational excellence, KPIs & analytics: Drive standardized processes, policies, performance metrics, and governance structures; establish KPI and reporting frameworks for safety, service, productivity, fleet utilization, maintenance effectiveness, carrier performance, and financial results; use analytics, forecasting, and business intelligence to identify opportunities and drive improvement.
  • Financial ownership, investments & cost management: Oversee major transportation, fleet, maintenance, and capital investment budgets; manage transportation cost inflation, fuel strategies, and market capacity risk; maintain full accountability for transportation operating expense performance and budget attainment.
  • Resilience, transformation & technology roadmap: Develop contingency planning and operational resilience strategies, lead transformation and modernization efforts, own transportation requirements for the technology roadmap including TMS, visibility platforms, routing optimization, fleet telematics, maintenance systems, and predictive analytics, and drive adoption of AI and advanced optimization tools.
  • Commercial partnership & customer growth: Partner with Commercial and Operations teams to support customer growth opportunities and service commitments; evaluate transportation impacts for new customer onboarding, pricing strategies, and network expansion opportunities.
  • Strategic partnerships, business cases & external representation: Negotiate multi-year transportation agreements and strategic partnerships, develop business cases for transportation investments, automation, and network changes, build high-performing leadership teams, and represent the organization with carriers, vendors, regulatory agencies, industry associations, and strategic partners.
