Remote Veterinary Accounting information

What is remote veterinary accounting?

Remote veterinary accounting involves managing the financial records and transactions for veterinary practices from a remote location, rather than working on-site. Accountants in this field handle tasks such as bookkeeping, payroll, invoicing, budgeting, and preparing financial reports, all tailored to the unique needs of veterinary businesses. Using cloud-based accounting software and secure digital communication, remote veterinary accountants help practices maintain accurate finances, ensure compliance, and support business growth without being physically present at the clinic.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote veterinary accountant?

To thrive as a Remote Veterinary Accountant, you need a solid background in accounting principles, experience with veterinary industry billing, and typically a degree in accounting or finance. Familiarity with accounting software like QuickBooks, veterinary practice management systems, and certifications such as CPA are often required. Strong attention to detail, time management, and the ability to communicate financial information clearly are crucial soft skills. These competencies ensure accurate financial records, regulatory compliance, and effective support for veterinary business operations from a remote setting.

How does a remote veterinary accountant typically collaborate with veterinary clinic staff to ensure accurate financial reporting?

A remote veterinary accountant often works closely with clinic managers, veterinarians, and administrative staff through virtual meetings and cloud-based accounting software. Regular communication is essential to gather accurate information about expenses, payroll, and inventory. By establishing clear processes for document sharing and maintaining open lines of communication, the accountant ensures that financial statements and reports reflect the clinic’s true financial health. Team collaboration tools and scheduled check-ins help address questions promptly, making remote teamwork efficient and effective.

Job description

Overview

The Director / Senior Director of FP&A is a strategic financial leader and right-hand advisor to executive leadership. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role owns financial planning, liquidity management, operational modeling, M&A underwriting, decision-support analytics, and supporting reporting across our portfolio of locations.

Operating within a lean FP&A organization, this position requires high-level strategic acumen combined with an agile, "roll-up-your-sleeves" operational mindset. Working in partnership with the CFO, CEO, COO, and Controller, the ideal candidate will optimize unit-level economics, drive business performance, leverage responsible AI and modern tech, and support scale through organic growth and acquisitions.

This is a remote position with preference for candidates based on the West Coast.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Executive Partnering & Leadership
    • C-Suite & PE Collaboration: Partner with the CFO, CEO, COO, and Controller on operational performance, growth strategies, and capital allocation; contribute to high-impact board packages for PE sponsors.
    • Strategic Business Cases: Establish robust evaluation methodologies for expansion initiatives and capital projects, converting complex concepts into objective, actionable business cases.
  • Budgeting, Forecasting & Liquidity Management
    • 13-Week Cash Flow Forecasting: Build and maintain a dynamic 13-week cash flow forecast to track liquidity, manage working capital, and provide transparent cash visibility to leadership and sponsors.
    • Planning & Driver-Based Modeling: Lead annual budgeting and rolling forecasts across all locations; build driver-based models for core veterinary metrics (doctor productivity, same-store growth, labor optimization).
    • Agile Decision Support: Deliver sensitivity models, "what-if" scenarios, and risk mitigation strategies to empower fast, data-driven operational decisions.
  • M&A Modeling & Post-Merger Integration
    • Deal Modeling & Valuation: Own financial modeling, transaction analysis, and underwriting for prospective practice acquisitions.
    • Post-Merger Integration: Partner with accounting and field operations to integrate new acquisitions, track post-deal synergies, and establish baseline unit economics.
  • Innovation, Responsible AI & Operations
    • Responsible AI & Automation: Evaluate and adopt responsible AI tools and automated workflows to accelerate predictive modeling and streamline lean FP&A processes.
    • Accounting & Field Alignment: Collaborate closely with the Controller on monthly closes and variance analysis, while partnering with field leaders to align practice operations with financial targets.

Qualifications

We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
